'The Betrayals' by Bridget Collins is one of the most beautiful and intoxicating novels I've read all year. Set in a mysterious academy called Montverre, with two timelines, one in the 1920s and one in the 1930s, 'The Betrayals' is filled to the brim with poetic imagery, mysteries and romance, with hints of fantasy and dark political elements simmering underneath. It's dangerous, it's sexy, and the romance is queer - an enemies-to-lovers plot written expertly. This novel will keep you guessing with every page and stay with you for a long time. A fabulous dark academia read. ~ Q: Where do you stand on the enemies-to-lovers trope? Do you have any favourite examples? A: I'm not usually a huge fan of this trope, but this novel was certainly an exception! I also love Mr Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett, Benedick and Beatrice from Much Ado About Nothing...
