It was 1944, Sealions name was still in the papers which hailed him as a hero recently sinking IJN battleship Kongou. However he wished to be known as anything but the name ‘Battleship Killer’. War is hell and if he had his choice, he wouldn’t have anything to do with it. Sitting in the CPO club at Naval Station Norfolk, Sealion sat down to a stiff drink and his eyes glued to the manila folder in front of him. Pulling off the string, the directive was as follows. 

Commander, Naval Submarine Forces Atlantic orders you on on September 18th, 1943 to begin a patrol to the following coordinates. Upon arriving your mission will be as follows...SINK KRIEGSMARINE BATTLESHIP TIRPITZ, AT ANY COST. If you are killed or captured as a POW the US government will deny any knowledge of the mission....

By the mid 70s I’ve had nearly twice the experience of being a fleet submarine as my colleagues. Earned my anchors, served on UDT and SEAL teams, even assisted in averting international incidents between navies. Now however is going to be the newest and biggest challenge of my life...

“Company Commander School? What the hell is a company commander? So I’m going to be training nuclear submarines? They’ll eat me alive, I know I’m good but I don’t think I’m THAT good.” Sealion read his orders and the immediate officer present frowned. 

“If you talk like that, then they will eat you alive. You won’t be teaching them how to be nuclear reactors, you are going to make them into submarines. Make them earn their dolphins just as you had. You’ll report to the schoolhouse first, then to New London immediately to pick up those new Ohio-class boats that are going through nuke school.” With that Sealion was dismissed but still more confused than assured. 

“Cruiser Princess eleven o’clock!” Sealion was on his own this patrol, normally a routine mission however a malfunction in his rebreather caused a mess of bubbles to rise up and give off his position. Now he was in a fight for survival off the coast of Borneo, staying down at periscope depth and trying to move under the cruisers hull to lay his bombs. However what could go wrong, went wrong as one particularly naïve destroyer made a ramming run onto the submarine and he blacked out.

It’s no secret that Eyri admires a great many of her allies, and so quite a few come to mind here! Raubahn, Estinien, Haurchefant, Papalymo, Hoary Boulder, Riol, Wyrnzoen, Jacke… the list of (npcs) goes on and on. Their strengths, their loyalties and dedication, the kindness they’ve shown her… Even if her simple response as to why is “he’s really strong!”, it’s still a pretty solid reason in her book to admire them.

But in the end, her answer comes down to a member of her Free Company, and the acting Guildmaster, Waekfloera Bloesterr… or better known as Warboss Smurficles. To say he’s strong is an understatement. He’s got the title of God of War and damn if she isn’t the first person to tell you that. He’s inspired her to take up the axe (a slow process– not everyone has rippling Warboss muscles, after all), and strive to grow stronger herself, and to look fabulous while doing it.

But besides his strength, she also just… loves him to pieces. You wouldn’t have to press her very much to get her to admit he’s practically another older brother in her eyes (the best one, she might also say, much to her actual older brother Ein’s dismay). She trusts him with her life, but tries to make sure that isn’t too much a weight on his already burdened shoulders, and even if he doesn’t actually need her there to protect him, she’s one of the first to volunteer to go with him on adventures and dungeon crawls, just in case. (though the sight of him decimating all in his path never gets old either, of course). He has yet to tell her no, so… she’ll take that as a sign he feels the same way.

Whether he’s hugging her, letting her watch him cook another 200 ponze of cheese risotto for Ishgard’s starved, or dragging her through the peaks of Sohm Al and the frozen halls of Dusk Vigil in search of gear because her current set isn’t up to snuff… every moment is a welcome one. Warboss is a great many things to Eyri. She couldn’t ask for a better ally, friend, or mentor.
