    “ oh, it’s nothing i can’t handle, abuelo! ”  holding up her hands with a small smile pulling at her lips, isabela wondered if he’d even be convinced -- he always seemed to try to aid her when it seemed the expectations laid upon her were getting too much -- it was something she had always loved about him.. but she would do whatever she had to do to keep her family strong. she reached out, giving both of his hands a small, gentle squeeze. 

Today was no surprise. He was again out in the open in his home, but following a slew of questions from young Antonio, he found himself equal parts drained and aching. And when he heard the familiar voice cutting through his self imposed exile sitting in the shade behind the casita, he cracked one eye open, peering in that direction until he immediately tried to stand, shaking off the notion that anything was wrong at all.

“Ah, Papá, I didn’t hear you calling, one second sorry-”
