Chess is one of my all-time favourite games and the reason I started playing modern board games. When I was a young man I played to a decent standard and once beat a Russian Grand Master in a friendly online game. I used to study the game for hours every day. Then family and work took over and by the time my kids had grown up I simply didn’t have the heart to start studying again. I still play occasionally but I discovered modern games and just love playing for fun rather than seriously. One of several old school games my daughter gave me for Christmas: Fanorona, the at least 400 year old national abstract-strategy game of Madagascar. This copy is in mint condition and dates from the ancient period of big hair and Bon-Jovi...the mid-1980’s.
