I love that we ask each other questions like this while we're laying in bed at night.
Even though she grew up speaking both languages about equally through most of grade school, and her Greek isn't nearly as good as her English any more, every now and then something comes up that it's more natural for Ree to say in Greek than in English, or she pops off a mini-lesson in Greek and/or Greek-American culture.
She was worried I'd find it annoying, because apparently some other people have, but I just think it's adorable, like everything else about her. And hey, I learn things.
Case in point: Everyone in her family growing up referred to the thing you sweep dirt into as the farasi, so she didn't learn the word "dustpan" until she was about fourteen.
I do the same to her with German sometimes, but to a lesser degree. After all, I wasn't raised speaking it the way she was raised speaking Greek; just, there are certain things I got used to saying in German when I was stationed overseas.
