Bio: Born into a peasant family and sold into slavery after a cholera outbreak kills both parents at a young age, Shinta's life does not start under a sign anyone might consider “good”. After losing his found family (three slave women named Akane, Kasumi, and Sakura), he is adopted (in a manner) by swordsman Hiko Seijuro. Hiko, impressed with the young man's care, gentility, and bravery in burying every body at the site of the bandit raid where everyone (save himself) was killed, he imparts upon the young boy two things: 

 A name worthy of a swordsman and a promise to teach the boy enough to fill that title. 

 The boy is a quick study and his small frame makes him ideal for the god-like speed characteristic of the style. All is well and progressing rapidly, until Kenshin learns of a revolution sweeping his home. This revolution seeks to overthrow the warring shogunate state of things and unite the country under under one, peaceful government. 

 Against the wishes of his teacher, Kenshin leaves, his training incomplete, and joins the revolution, making quite a name for himself. His kill count rises to well over 100, earning him the ugly title of hitokiri battousai. He is no longer a swordsman, but an assassin. Only one man, Kiyosato Akiraone, managed to lay so much as a finger on him (or a blade, in this case), a feat the assassin marks as astounding; he retains the scar to the present day. The shaky morality of Kenshin's chosen path does not strike him til later, upon meeting his unforeseen wife-to-be, Yukishiro Tomoe. 

 Almost as quickly as their relationship blossoms, it ends, cut short by his own blade. It is her untimely death that completes the famous scar on his left cheek and propels Kenshin into the life of a wanderer.

Appearance: Small of stature and slight like a woman, there have been many occasions wherein Kenshin has been mistaken for such. Bright red hair and lavender eyes, pale skin marred by a large, cross-shaped scar on the left side of his face.

Personality: Soft-spoken and thoughtful, gentle in both nature and speech, he does not strike one as the type who is prone to violence and, in face (despite the sword at his hip) has done his best to swear it off entirely—unless necessary. A man of strong principles, he is no coward and will absolutely retaliate if necessary, but he is almost completely non-aggressive and certainly not ambitious in any way.
