aaron being so furious that he's vibrating with anger? making it so clear that he's mad at kev, not robert, he's angry for robert. aaron being protective and worried and takikg care of robert? excellent

to me, it is completely believable that robert would lie to himself about his relationship to kev, and that he would lie to aaron. all he has wanted since he got back was to get back to the way things were six years ago, he wants to forget the past six years and just get back to where they were before. admitting to aaron that he's married, admitting that kev is violent (to others) and that it was a marriage for protection, for comfort, reveals something about how much he has changed and robert doesn't want the past six years to have changed him. he's scrambling to get his life back and, to me, it makes sense that he would want to keep those parts of his life separate because introducing one to the other not only reveals the new relationship, but it brings those six years out into the open for all to scrutinise and puts the relationship in a new light. I think robert knows this relationship with kev isn't healthy and good, but he's trying to brush over it because admitting anything else is admitting how hard it was, how bad it got.

the thing that gets me about this episode is that is cements the fact that no one knows aaron like robert. the rest of aaron's family are treating him like he's an injured puppy and robert sees him for what he is, tries to help him instead of dictate what he should do. it mirrors the scene where robert had a breakdown, where aaron knew how to calm him down and talk to him about it (before sleeping with him, maybe not the best move but...). it shows that for both of them, the person who knows them the best and can understand what's going on is the other. I am dying.

Aaron truly said "go out there and tell them" to Robert in 2015 and once Robert started, he hasn't been able to stop telling the entire village how much he loves him.

also I'm sorry but the fact that robert immediately goes to aaron to fuck after coming home from his honeymoon with someone else?! these two are insane

something about robert being so lonely that he doesn't know how to be patient, he can't make himself stay away because he has no one else is really devastating. he has no friend he can discuss it with, no way to process what has happened but he just knows he got a moment of reprieve from his misery and now he can't help but cling to it too tightly.

I am here for the post-John slow burn. Aaron watching Robert from afar, Aaron seeing Robert laugh in the pub and feeling that ache he can't explain, Aaron coming to terms with his six years grieving a relationship with the love of his life, spending nights terrified of the feelings he still has, before finally realising the fear isn't going to dictate his life and allowing himself to be vulnerable, to risk losing it all again because Robert's smile and touch and laugh and Aaron's joy is worth it.
