There is a monument here to recognize the engineering skills of the 17th century Acadians who drained the salt marshes to create arable fields. Dykes and aboiteaux constructed at the time are still in use today. There were lovely long pressure treated beams on these posts. They went missing in short order. What remains is perhaps now a monument to the engineering skills of the 21st century locals.
