Opal was sent to find Abner in the aftermath of Moonvasion.

Opal finds his cabin in the woods.

She correctly predicts she’s about to die a horror movie death.

Abner sneaks up on her with a damn axe.

She hits him with a smoke bomb.

They haven’t seen each other since they were like ten. He’s probably a little bit older than her since she’s a little bit younger than Donald and Della in this verse. Yes, ironic.

She manages to convince him to come with her to the mansion where everyone else is.

She is so damn tired...he threw an axe at her head.

He’s damn tired...she nearly blinded him with the smoke bomb.

He’s happy to see his brother and cousins again.

Maybe she is a little pretty.

Maybe he is a little handsome.

I couldn't help thinking about Abner, Opal, Daisy, Donald and Donna all meeting accidentally... and it's gonna be so awkward oh my god.

Donna both dated Abner and Donald in the past. She's seeing both men in other relationships now, but is still being flirty with them, and very smug about it.

Daisy is furious, glaring daggers at her sister. Donald wants just to disappear, and is sweating all the time, tries to lighten up the mood with awkward comments that make everything even worse.

Opal's just very reserved, trying (with gritted teeth) to completely ignore Donna's flirting with Abner, Abner's just dead inside, Opal shooting "I-didn't-knew-women-like-her-are- you-type-seriously-Abner" looks at him, he shrugs helplessy.

Grouchy, silent, lumberjack/truck driver Abner Whitewater Duck falling head over heels for effervescent, soft-spoken, IT specialist Opal McDuck is my pumpkin spice latte (which is really good) because it’s so not obvious at first despite their initial meeting.

Abner doesn’t change much. They met back in the day when they were 17. Opal drove to Grandma’s farm, in a car she purchased after working at the bin for 10 years, to pick up Della and Donald. He’s seen her.

In an AU where Donald and Opal are close, he knows how okay Opal is, but that’s from Donald. He trusts Donald. It isn’t until Opal visits the Duck Family for Christmas that he sees what Donald has been telling him for years.

Opal decides to visit the Duck Family more often. She visits Grandma’s farm with baked goods and presents, and doesn’t mind driving her around town. She takes her time with Eider and Lulubelle, and she learns how to cook healthy meals. 

She gardens. Her gardens back home are mainly flowers, and she doesn’t see why she shouldn’t learn how to garden a healthy vegetable garden. She certainly helps with Eider’s family.

She does this without Donald. She learns to bond and connect with people who aren’t Donald and the boys.

Abner sees this. He watches from afar. He says his hello. She says hers. He does take time to talk to her. He takes time to befriend her. He asks about her flowers. She asks about the lumber industry. 

Opal’s favorite fantasy series. She recommends it to him. He has no reason to read it, none at all. But he checks it out the library. Finds out it isn’t too bad. He purchases the audio books to listen to while on the road. 

“Did you like it?” “Yep.” “I’m so happy!”

Opal learns how to drive a tractor. It’s a riveting experience. Eider and Elvira are great teachers.

When Fethry gets deathly ill and Opal helps to save him, she’s already won him over, but he really likes how things are right now. He likes being her friend. She likes being his friend.

Fethry can see it. He’s gotta tell someone, doesn’t he? He has to tell Donald. He’s never seen his brother like this before. Ever.

Donald has noticed it too. He wasn’t going to get into that business. Neither have said anything to him.

Gladstone looks at them. He’s known for months. He isn’t a dummy, “Looks like Abner’s one big love sick sucker.”

“And we’re going to help him, come on, Gladdy.”

It’s 4 am where I am. I’ve lost control of my life, or I may be really happy I’ve turned in the last of my finals. Yes. I’m going to treat myself.

Abner and Opal aren’t the couple to say I love you. It’d be months/years since they’ve said it last to each other. Very actions speak louder than words these two.

Cannot tell they are a couple in public. Abner’s stoic af and not into PDA. Opal wears open expressions, but she’s also very low PDA. 

LDR are tough af.

Abner is touch sensitive. Opal learns to work with this.

Opal is a fantasy geek. Loves fantasy genre, and recommends a book series for Abner to read when he’s on the road. He doesn’t think he’ll like but buys the audios anyways. He loves them.

Opal learns about the logging industry, and also learns how to use a tractor at Grandma’s farm. Abner is impressed when he returns.

They garden together. It’s their thing. Abner adds vegetables and teaches her how to plant healthy veggies.

They’re the happy parents to a 200 pound St. Bernard named Bolivar. He exists in Disney canon. Look him up.

Opal gets sick frequently, and does have a day where she’s so ill she vomits/shits on herself. Abner comes in early and takes care of her. Cleans her up completely. She vaguely remembers someone washing her hair. (Seriously thought it was Goldie for a second)

Abner will pick and bundle Opal up when she overworks herself from home, and will call as a reminder that she needs to rest and eat.

Opal reminds him he can talk to her about things, even the ones he doesn’t think she’ll get. She’ll try. She proves him right.

Buys him scented bath salts, and he loves them. Absolute loves them and the scented candles too. Spoiled rotten.

Sometimes, it’s hard to have a fight with someone like Abner. He’s stoic. He will not play to Opal’s temper foolishness. Will not give up the bed when angry, so she’ll sleep on the sofa or her office.

There are times when he does get angry, and it’s scary. There are times when she gets angry, and it’s scary.

By morning Abner will have sticky notes pointing out where she went wrong and a heartfelt apology. She’ll even cook breakfast. Not a prideful man he admits his faults and apologizes (heartfelt). 

Basically they work on communication, and it works. Their communication works for each other.

Abner outlives Opal. At her funeral is the first time any of his cousins see him cry. (Fethry has seen him cry.)

A good question. @donaldtheduckdad may be interested in this.

Fenton is far more expressive than Opal, and therefore, he has a long list of affectionate terms of her. He doesn’t always wear his emotions on his sleeve, and he can be…kind of aloof when things are bothering him. But he’s a hopeless romantic. He’s of Cuban descent. If I’m correct, he’s half-Cuban, and he may possibly speak fluent Spanish. I’m not fluent at all in Spanish, so if I get this wrong — tell me please, correct me.

Opal isn’t used to a lot of pet names for Fenton. She tries, and she’s really bad at them. He laughs at her and teases her about it, but he finds it adorable. She’d call him sweetheart. He’s her sweetheart. Her Fenton.

However, my personal headcanon is that Opal does know some Scottish terms of endearment from Scrooge. Every now and then she’d call Fenton mo ghràdh. It means my love. He’s so happy when he finds this out.

And like if this is the wrong terminology…tell me so. I don’t mind being corrected.

Opal and Fenton try to do things that are not in their personality for each other. Opal works to be a little bit more expressive and open. Fenton tries to work on giving Opal space but showing her how much he cares in less grand gestures.

Example...Opal doesn’t like PDA. She isn’t fond of it, but Fenton is all about it. For a short while, Fenton didn’t know if Opal liked him as much as he liked her, so she started to take the initiative with hand holding and more physical touch…not a lot…limited to shoulder taps and soft smiles…stuff like that.

Fenton tones down on the rose petals and gifts. He’ll make her favorite meal if she’s upset. Good food is the way to Opal’s heart.

Abner isn’t romantic. He isn’t expressive. He love fiercely and intensely. It’s difficult for him to convey his affection through words. Fethry understands him best without having to speak half of the time.

At best Abner will call Opal by her name, or he may use hon or sweetheart in the privacy of each other’s homes. He won’t say it in public, and she won’t say it in public either. She’ll use his name, and use dear when they’re alone. 

Like with Fenton, I’d say she’d use something she heard in the past…mo chridhe/m'eudail for my heart/my darling/dear

Example…Opal’s windshield freezes during the night. She knows it’s frozen but will get to it in the morning. He comes home first, and decides to it himself earlier in the morning so she doesn’t have to.

Abner’s having a problem with some kind of technical thing. He doesn’t tell her. Opal finds out, finds the research, and does it for him — she may even show him how to do it.

Abner cooks dinner when Opal is having a bad day but doesn’t want to show it. When Abner comes after a month’s drive on the road, a bubbly bath with essential oils and bath salts is waiting for them.

Who snoresAbner. Abner…the first time they slept together, Opal almost jumped out of bed. No worries, Opal farts in her sleep, and Abner has to cover his mouth with the pillow to keep himself from laughing.

Who takes out the trashThey both do at each other’s house. It’s kind of…not a thing for one person to take the trash out.

Who hands out candy vs who takes the kid(s) trick or treatingOpal hands out candy. Abner takes the kids trick or treating. Opal doesn’t mind.

Who goes to parent teacher conferencesIf/when they have children, Opal does because she’s closer to the school than he is. He finds a schedule that keeps him driving throughout the day, but he can come home every evening. 

Who packs a lunch for the other to take to workAbner. He prepares lunch throughout the week without being asked. He likes doing these things, and Opal greedily eats it because it is good.

Leaves clothes all over the floor/in the laundry basket vs who puts them awayAbner…it isn’t seriously messy. He’ll hit the laundry basket. 

Who organized the DVDs and booksOpal does.She loves movies and books, and wants to be able to find them, Bolivar!

Who has a million magazine subscriptionsAbner. He has boating, fishing, and logging magazines. Outdoorsy kind of magazines. Opal spends an off day reading them and learning how to BBQ.

Who has a name for the stray neighborhood catOpal, although she’s more of a dog person.

Fenton can sing. We know Fenton can sing. Do you know his voice actor? Yeah, Fenton can sing, and it is lovely. He isn’t exactly shy about showing off his musical skills every now and then. It’s common knowledge. Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera got skillz. 

But Abner Duck? I think he can sing. He has a lovely singing voice, but not nearly as...I don’t know...as Fenton. It’s a very different style of singing, most likely country, and he’s a reserved man so nobody except Fethry and possibly Gladstone (through pure accident) knows about this.

I’d imagine Abner’s voice and singing voice being similar to Johnny Cash. It’s his voice I hear.

Opal loves music. Fenton and she would have hot debates on the latest music, and they’d sing and dance together. Silly moments.

Abner would single quietly outside or inside, depending on whatever job. Opal doesn’t know this about him. He knows how to play guitar professionally, maybe played for a club when he was young. 

I like to think both men sing to her when they’re lazing about, playing with her hair. Opal’s reading the book, lounging about. They’re doing something similar, and just take her hand into theirs, play with a lock of her hair. 

Johnny Cash’s Ring of Fire has always been my Scrooge/Goldie’s OTP song...

As in...I think I was dreaming it, and I woke up, was pissed because why...I was on a roll.

But @donaldtheduckdad the dream (or was it a dream?) was about Abner’s inability to show affection. He is not into PDA at all, and in private, it’s hard for him to be...romantic...as in cuddles and hugs and held hands.

Opal tries not to be bothered by this. Abner is a good, kind man, and when he loves, he loves fiercely. But she can’t always read him. Fethry can, which makes sense because it’s his brother, and they grew up together.

Donald and Gladstone can kinda read him at times. His silences and all of that, but Opal can’t and it worries her. 

She doesn’t know how to communicate that with him. Abner can sense something is wrong.

Ultimately, Fethry proposes a really wild plan to help Abner release his romantic side, and it goes as well as you’d expect.

LIIIIKE...the last thing I remember Opal looks at the mess, because it’s a mess, and she laughs. She takes his hands into hers and thanks him because she didn’t need this...”Just a hug every now and then, tell me what’s going on in that lumberjack brain of yours.”
