I work in a very specialized in industry. We focus on learning and behavior of animals. We are especially interested in using kind and gentle training techniques that are based in science to improve animal welfare, learn more about animals, save animals in the wild and educate the public. This last week I participated in the Animal Behavior Management Alliance conference in which colleagues shared their experiences using training to study the hearing ranges of animals that has led to changes in waterways to protect migrating whales from manmade noise pollution. I learned about polar bear metabolism studies done with training in zoos to see exactly how lethal melting polar ice caps are. I saw abused macaws transformed through training (something I am quite familiar with) And I saw repeatedly how force free training allows us to provide excellent medical care, enriching experiences and opportunities for the world to learn and experience animals in the most engaging uplifting ways.
