       the monkey is still silent as he tries to think about what to say next... there was no way, right ? maybe he was reaching for something that wasn’t there... that he was just NOSTALGIC and misses someone he hasn’t seen for a millenea.

      ❝ do you have any memories ? ❞ he finally breaks the silence. he knows the other’s answer. there was no way that the other would could have or was the monk he had traveled with a LONG, LONG time ago. he was just... making things up. confusing the past with the present again. still... it wouldn’t hurt to ask, right ? even if he knows the answer would hurt him.

      eventually, he shakes his head, a hand waving a bit as he loudly exhales.  ❝ nevermind... just ignore me, ❞ he quickly adds as he goes back to staring at the table in front of him. he was so stupid.

Words were lost on his tongue at the scholar’s words. Staring in surprise at the admission before his brows pinched together and his gaze turned to his claws folded in his lap. Giving the words some deep though — playing them over and over in his mind. So simple and yet...

Was he really any good? If he was being honest...no. He had made plenty of mistakes in his centuries upon centuries of living — all of which still haunted him to this very day. He’d like to think he had changed, but somehow he felt he just got worse. Proving it time and time again — failure after failure, and the one factor was always him. The corners of his lips twitching and trying to form downward into a frown.

A sigh escaping past his lips moments later, his gaze returning to Tang. Burying those thoughts and feeling deep down like he always did.

“Nah, I still think I’m pretty bad. The worst probably — ”

“ — but I appreciate the sentiment, thanks.”

Smile, just smile and pretend you were better than you were. After all, you are the Legendary Monkey King, Great Sage Equal to Heaven, and the Victorious Fighting Buddha — you can’t show any faults or cracks. You are suppose to be perfect, flawless even. Putting on the cheery and sunny façade that he hidden behind for so long.
