Note: Countrary to popular belief, these photos are not of the New York Class or Nevada Class turrets. They were nearly identical to them, except they lacked the roof top hatches. A mistake I had made when I originally posted these photos.
These turrets were originally ordered by AG Vulcan Shipyard in Hamburg, Germany for the Greek Battleship Salamis that was under construction at their yard. In 1912, they had subcontracted Bethlehem Steel for four turrets of their latest design, which was the New York Class 14"/45 caliber Mark 1 Mod 1 guns and turrets, with some modifications.
However, by the time they were completed in December 1914, WWI had begun and the British had place blockade on Germany. This meant they couldn't be delivered. Later, Bethlehem Steel sold them the British, which built the Abercrombie Class Monitors around each turret. Salamis was never completed, her hull was launched in 1914 and later scrapped in 1932 after years of legal disputes between the Greek Government and AG Vulcan.
