Chell found most of Gladys’ apartment to be unnervingly sleek and modern. White linoleum, white walls, white coffee table- all spotless and neat. She took it upon herself to ponder the blank landscape canvas hanging above the couch as she waited. Soon enough, Gladys appeared from her bedroom with a yellow folder.
Chell silently studied the paper within. It read ‘CHELL [SURNAME REDACTED]’ in bold letters, with a picture of her face in the corner. Several passages were penned in, most notably a surname and birthdate.
“The files were a bit corrupted. I hope you don’t mind, but I took the liberty of filling in some of the missing information.” Gladys stated, deceptively blasé.
Chell glanced between her and the paper with an unreadable expression. Her brow twitched slightly.
“Not a fan of ‘Freeman’? I took it from some deceased personnel. It’s not like he’s using it, anymore.”
“It’ll have to do, then.”
Gladys took the folder back and went to her desk. This was it, Chell figured. After tonight, she’d be a full-time employee at Aperture as Ms. Freeman.
