“My reputation is more important to me than you’ll ever be.” -Reagan Blake, 17, Senior

Reagan Blake used to have the life you loved to hate. Her family was well off, she was popular, a member of the cheerleading squad, community service club, and the national honor society. Everyone in town knew her if not for her own merits but for who her father was, a local weatherman revered by most. But his popularity and everything else changed with a local charity tennis game. A tennis game that led to a shoulder injury, a surgery, painkillers, and finally an addiction that led to Reagan becoming the person she is today.

Everything was fine until her father was caught stealing prescription pads from the doctor and buying from the local dealers who he’d previously warned his children were bad news. There was a fall from grace, her father going to rehab instead of jail, everything Reagan knew as normal came crumbling down. The once naturally outgoing girl is only friendly to save face, no longer befriending anyone who comes along. She would but with the way her friends turned their backs on her to keep their reputations clean while hers was sullied it was natural for Reagan to thin the herd a bit since the herd hadn’t already distanced themselves from her.

But now is a time for rebuilding. She’s not as well off as before, her father having lost his previous job and has now settled for working at the local radio station. He's is out of rehab, though neither she nor her siblings speaking with him even if her mother has seemingly forgiven him and the whispers and stares have seemed to die down. She now operates under the assumption that nothing is more important than her reputation (something she realized as she watched her mother lie to everyone at the country club). It’s the most valuable thing she owns and it’s the only thing keeping her family together at this point. A divorce would completely wreck whatever semblance of standing her parents still have in the community. Only those who stuck around through everything see the real her and almost everyone else is kept at arm’s length. It’s a lonely, aggravating  way to live, not trusting anyone, but with so much at stake trust is a little thing to sacrifice if it means saving her reputation.
