Oh well what the heck...belated rant. Foreign fans are basically being all “You should separate his views as a senator with boxing. Don’t mix sports with politics.” To be fair, that’s what his Pinoy fans also say. But I’m more annoyed reading that from foreigners. MP is still receiving salary as a public official whenever he has fights...fights which he would stop or so he said during the campaign. I can’t even remember anymore how many times he contemplated about retiring. 

1. author and his family are awful. Wish this story was told when author was still alive and more importantly, when lola Eudocia herself was still alive so it is her story in her own words. That is, if she wanted to share her story.

2. Lola is an honorific in some of Philippine languages and it’s used to refer to your own grandmother or a female elder. It’s common for us to use honorifics even when we’re addressing strangers so it’s not weird or demeaning.  It isn’t an equivalent of ‘mammy’.

Using ‘lola’ in ‘lola Eudocia’ isn’t necessarily disrespectful because for many of us, simply calling her by her first name, sans any honorific, doesn’t seem right.

3. it’s annoying when people use that story to further discriminate against Filipinos or justify their bigotry because they assume every Fil-Am family must own slaves. I’ve read several comments along the lines of “I will now look at my Fil neighbor differently”

4. also annoying when people downplay the enslavement committed by US  Americans and Europeans in a “see? US/Europe didn’t invent slavery”. Those are still different topics.
