Y’all asked for deets on Moulin Rouge so here they are lol:
- The set design is incredible. Not since Great Comet have I actually been this blown away by a set. - Catherine Zuber is the GOAT of costume design. Literally everything from Satine’s dresses to what Max Clayton and Kyle Brown wore during the opening number of the 2nd act. - Speaking of the opening number of the 2nd act, Sonya Tayeh is on another level with the choreography. - Karen Olivo? An actual goddess. You are not ready for this. - Aaron Tveit is giving the performance of a lifetime. Again...you are not ready for this. - The ensemble is TOO. DAMN. TALENTED. - El Tango de Roxanne is an absolute show stopper. Aaron sings that shit to the rafters and did I mention that you’re not ready for this because you are definitely NOT ready for this. I had a table seat for the matinee and got spat on multiple times during this number lol. - Personally, my favorite part was the Elephant Love Medley. Aaron and Karen’s chemistry is too damn good and they sing so well together.
Here are some things I think need to be fixed for the Broadway run:
- Come What May is introduced a little too early and needs to be bigger. It felt like Karen and Aaron, vocally, were held back a little. - They need to focus more on the love story between Christian and Satine. There isn’t enough of that aspect shown in the show. - Karen’s only big solo is “Firework” and while she nails it, I think she should be able to show off her vocals more. - I’d like to see Aaron and Karen do some more choreography. They had some cute moments but I wanted more lol.
There are probably more things here I that I’m forgetting but if y’all have any specific questions about songs/scenes just hmu lol.
