Aaron Mickelson is a designer who has completely eliminated packaging from 5 household everyday products. According to the article "Americans alone throw away some 70 million tons of boxes, bags, containers, and inserts each year". You cannot become a designer this day in age without thinking about sustainable design. When looking for inspiration, looking at Mickelson's designs is a good place to start. He thought outside of the box by entirely getting rid of the box. In the article it also says that there's no crazy new technology or cutting-edge manufacturing process, each solution is unique to the product. Just like any other project a designer handles.
Maybe slowly designers will start to adopt Mickelson's product packaging ways by eliminating waste completely and together we can reduce that 70 million.Â
