It's been 6 weeks since i moved in and 5 weeks since the start of the semester. I am constantly being pushed to the limits. As an extrovert, it has been very difficult adapting to life on my own. However, after slowly gaining some friends and acquaintances on campus, I feel I'm really starting to get used to Appalachian.
The classes I'm taking currently are Typography, Art Prehistory to 1400, New Testament, Weight Lifting, Intro to Film, Sculpting I and Foundations II (to catch up in Sculpting I). This is a very wide variety of classes and don't have much in common with each other. I'm learning so much out of each and every class though and feel, as of now, I'm doing alright in all my classes. Typography tests my design skills and craftsmanship, Weight Lifting tests my body and mind to go to new heights, Art History helps with understanding how Art has impacted the human race throughout history, Intro to film is teaching how a cinematographer thinks and why film is an art of itself, New Testament is helping a lot spiritually and with knowledge of how Christianity branched out from Judaism, and Sculpting is helping with challenging my mind to think of art in a three-dimensional aspect.
The first couple of weeks of school were rough because I was very lonely, but I soon found a small group Bible Study that meets on Monday nights. A friend in Typography told me about this cool Graphic Arts club and I'm participating in that club as well.
This past week is where I'm really starting to find my place. I have a friend who will is almost like a personal trainer and he's been awesome to hang out with so far. I'm able to watch the Walking Dead at his apartment and we went sledding last night all over campus. A girl from my Bible Study has introduced me to Swing Dance and Jazz night on campus, she also introduced me to a big fellowship club on campus that meets on Tuesday nights and it was just fantastic! A place to worship and listen to God's word. Did I mention the fellowship? It's just insane how much I can rely on them. I can't wait to see them again and have had a blast this week.
The snow hasn't been that impressive until this week! I was shocked to get out of class on Wednesday and have been out of school since. I haven't seen this much snow in years and felt like a kid playing and building things Wednesday night. Sledding on Thursday night was a thrill and inspires me to go skiing sometime soon.
So, it's only been 5 weeks and I'm already deciding what classes to take for the summer and fall. On top of that, I've lived here for a little over a month and have chose to renew my lease. I feel I have most of my year planned out now and can relax with the anxiety I've had about the future. The last thing I'm appreciative is the website lynda.com that easily teaches design software and skills on how to be a graphic designer. Yes, I'm even learning material outside of the seven classes this semester.
I plan to visit home again soon, and as much as I want to see everyone again, I have to be conservative with gas. I have a budget and I'm keeping track of it. All the freedom I have as an adult are the benefits of the responsibilities I have to endure. Truly living the dream and will keep moving forward.
