@havanillas’ Merventurine (HSR Au)
(Merventurine AU Masterlist) {Au October}
For the final week of my Au October, I have chosen Havanillas’ Merventurine au. This au is one of my top favorite Honkai Star Rail Aus and I love the beautiful art style of the comics the creator makes.
The au follows lighkeeper!Dr. Ratio after he finds an injured mermaid!Aventurine washed up on the beach. Ratio takes Aventurine in and the pair bond as Aventurines heals. I really enjoy the development of their relationship and the domestic moments they share. I also like the clever way Havanillas changed Aventurine’s backstory to fit the au. (I won’t say much more because I would prefer people to go check out the au themselves. I linked the au masterlist on Havanillas’ blog up top.)
The design of the art is based on the cover of the graphic novel “The Girl From The Sea” by Molly Knox Ostertag. The book is a lesbian coming of age story that also brings awareness to things like ocean pollution and habitat damage. It follows a young girl named Morgan who falls in love with a girl named Keltie after she saves Morgan from drowning. I feel like conflicts between the characters are really well written and the art is very pretty. It was really fun trying to change the cover to fit Ratiorine because both the book and the au follow a human and a humanoid sea creature, -a sekie and a mermaid specifically- becoming closer and falling in love.
