“I thought you liked nature, dad.” Her hands had finally left the damn pocket as she pushed some hair behind her ear, and she seemed to relax more the further they got into their hike. “You've always brought me outside.” And he really had.

“I love it, because I'm with you guys.” Both Ziva and Tali had always loved the outdoors, so he'd learned to love it with them. And he'd happily take a thousand bug bites if it meant watching his baby make snow angles all day or learn to kayak or jump around in giant piles of fallen leaves.

As if to prove his point, he pulled Tali in for a quick kiss on her cheek as he passed her on the trail.

“It is true. He would not be caught dead out here by himself.” Hell no. His girls was the only thing that could drag him out to places like these. Well, that and a large enough sum of money. And crime scenes.

“Because it's dangerous out here.”

“More dangerous than the city?” Tali actually seemed confused.

“Of course, Motek. We could meet a spider.” He glared at Ziva, but she simply shrugged.

“Or a grizzly bear.” She rolled her eyes, and Tali snickered.

“There are no grizzlies in Virginia, dad. Only black bears.” As if that was any better. He'd heard that they were more likely to attack, anyways.

“And even if there were, they'd have heard your dad coming from miles away and hide.”

“Well that's why I brought you, Ziva. One stare from you and they'd run off in the opposite direction.” That finally made her stop and turn back towards them, but he hadn't expected her smirk.

“Well I am not worried, cause I have this.” She pulled a sharp, shiny knife out of seemingly nowhere and twirled it expertly between her fingers, before giving it a fond look. “As well as the other three, smaller ones, of course.” Why didn't it surprise him that she'd brought four knives with her on a hike?

“Well California might have Buffy the vampire slayer, but D.C. apparently has Ziva the bear-slicer.” She gave him one of those adorably confused looks, as if he had been the one to mess up the English language.

“I do not think I know this Spuffy person, but if she slays things, I'm sure I'd like her.” She turned around with a shrug of her shoulders, still looking slightly perplexed. “And I do not believe I have killed a vampire yet.” Tali chuckled next to him, and Tony could only roll his eyes.

“Crazy ninja chick.” He shook his head as she pocketed the knife, and Tali bumped his shoulder with her own.
