I get kind of sad sometimes because I think the ley line was in a way desperate to allow Gansey to live instead of Noah. Gansey had an unshakable ambition to find out the mysteries of the world but not because he wanted to profit off of his find, but because he just wanted to know. He wanted the knowledge that something bigger than himself was out there and that he himself could find it. To think that if Gansey wasn't set on this path the ley line's power could've easily fallen into Whelk, Neeve or Greenmantle's hands wasn't an option. So in order to right this course of events Noah had to die so unfairly and then disappear after this whole adventure was over.
(I think I just get sad thinking about how Noah was innocent in this search. He did it for Whelk, just to go along with it, but he wouldn't have thought he'd ever have offer up his life or even take someone else out.)
