You don’t know the true horror of AI until you've seen a deepfake video of your just deceased grandpa singing Hello Darkness My Old Friend in a meant to be heartwarming documentary about his life including his childhood images turned into fluckering clips by computers, all while his voice is speaking directly at you with words that aren't his, with cadence that you don't recognise, like a reminder that none of this is real, and his face, doesn’t entirely look like him, just, too smooth with wrinkles flickering out of existence as he lip syncs and the worst part is hearing your grandmother sniffling, and you assess the room and only you and your sister seem to be seeing it for what it is: an insult to your grandpas life and death but everybody else watches the video, quietly sniffling, seemingly appreciating this gift my uncle did of documenting my grandfather's life with creepy images whose faces move in sometimes natural, sometimes unnatural ways, with the voice of a man who's been dead for two months, going over his life, with lines he didn’t have time to record, with lines he could not have recorded in his last remaining living state so his voice was put through a program to make him say those lines.
