BLACK BIRD
Send me “black bird” for a darker memory of my muse’s past.
I had been super excited for my friends party and my parents knew it. They dropped me off and I told them that I loved them and that I would see them the next day. The party was a sleep over and it was my first time sleeping over anyone’s house. The party was a blast, we played games, had dinner, cake and ice cream and watched a movies with popcorn.
Then all the fun came to a halt when it was time to leave. I grabbed my things to leave, my parents were no where to be seen. It was weird, they had never been late to pick me up…ever. I sat on my friends stoop staring up the street watching for their car to pull up, but they never came. Her mother begged me to come inside the house, but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it.
The feeling in the pit of my stomach began to grow worse by the second. I remember that feeling. It was if I knew that something was wrong, but I had no clue as to what.
After a while, my friends mother had me come back into the house, but I fought against her and stayed on their porch waiting. I can remember that day like it was yesterday and every second that went by the more I knew in my heart that I would never see my parents again.
That night, my uncle came to pick me up and told me what had happened. The ache in me, is something that I wouldn’t even wish on my worst enemy. I cried, got angry, denied what was happening and swore they were coming back and were going to take me back home with them. It never happened of course.
Even at their funeral I was more like a ghost, withdrawn into myself, I remember the whole thing, but I wasn’t really there. The person that had hit them with his car, was drunk and had taken them away from me forever. Yeah the guy went to jail for a bit, but he got out and went back home to his family.
It’s not really fair and yes I’m still angry, but really I just miss my parents. They were fantastic people, the best out there.
