"WHERE IS SHE?! Where is Dark Enchantress Cookie?!" Yelled, who you now know as Gingerbrave.
You had come to learn the names of the 5 cookies you met within the last few miles of walking. The leader of the small group seemingly was Gingerbrave. Followed by Strawberry Cookie, a very timid little girl in a strawberry hood, how fitting. Then Wizard Cookie. Quite the character; a very bossy, sassy little one who looked and spoke like an old man but had the height opposite to one. Being rather small. Then was Chili Pepper Cookie, a very greedy, feisty, boisterous girl. Always worried about the money and the jewels.
"Hah! That old lady knows better than to mess with ME, THE MIGHTY KING!" And of course, your current favorite, Custard Cookie III. A little blonde boy who reminded you very much of a dog. He really wanted to be a king, and according to him was one of the kingdom they came from. They gave a name, but you didn’t recognize it.
"Not a Cookie around, huh? Where is everyone?" Chili Pepper Cookie asked, glancing around the barren forest we were walking through.
Well, it wasn't exactly a forest. It was more dunes than anything.
"I suspect..." Wizard Cookie started up before clearing his throat, looking now very alert. "No, I'm almost certain we are being watched!"
There was a faint tingly feeling on the back of your neck, you glanced behind you, seeing something in the dusted woods around you. Perched on a treetop was a young girl, or what seemed to be a teenager. Her hair black in a messy ponytail, skin warm and deep, brows furrowed quite angrily. When her eyes locked with yours, she spoke.
“Outlanders, not another step!” She called out.
There seemed to be a cookie behind her, one with a paper bag over its head.
“Black Raisin Cookie!” The cookie spoke hesitantly. So that was her name.
“Go, go back and hide! It’s an attack!” She yelled, standing up from her perch and jumping down, still hiding in the shadows. “Leave these outlanders to me.” She spoke.
“Huh? Where is that voice hiding?!” Gingerbrave Cookie asked, very concerned.
“Show yourself, or else!” Yelled Chili Pepper Cookie. Drawing her daggers.
“Such eyes are not trained to see in the shadows. Outlanders are not welcome in our village!” She yelled.
“Black Raisin Cookie, they’re almost here!” Called another voice from the shadows. They’re?
“Let them come! I wanna see how skilled these outlanders are against us in battle.” She spoke defiantly.
You heard a few distant sounds, one of crows, and the other of this odd…humming.
The crows were coming in, quick.
“DOWN!” You yelled as the sound of the crows drew near. Grabbing most of them and pulling them towards you. You got Wizard Cookie and Custard Cookie III first, as they were closest to you. Yapping your ear off for most of the walk so far.
“WHAT?-” Yelled Strawberry cookie back before she was cut off.
The crows swooped down surrounding the 6 of us as they screamed and cawed.
“GAH! Where did all these crows come from!?” yelled Gingerbrave.
“I’m not sure!” Called back out from Wizard cookie, who was holding his hat to his head.
The odd humming noise got closer and closer.
“Look!” Yelled Custard Cookie III, pointing towards an odd device.
Oh my.
— — — —
After some fighting, which you were rather useless in…the waffle bot, so Wizard Cookie dubbed it, was on the floor, a few sparks lighting from it. The odd girl had retreated back into the shadows also.
“Oh! Oh! These are from the Vanilla Kingdom!?” Yelled Wizard Cookie as he picked up a part that was still sparking before dropping it as it burnt his hand. “HEAVENLY WITCHES!” He cursed.
You gasped. “Are you alright Wizard Cookie?” You asked, kneeling down to him.
“I’m fine, fine.” He spoke but he was still clutching the palm.
After some coercion from the rest of the group he finally showed it to you. It was already rather red, so Custard Cookie gave up his handkerchief to let him hold it to until we could find proper dressing.
“Wait, so does this mean Dark Enchantress is leading us to the Vanilla Kingdom herself!?” Gingerbrave asked.
“The only thing she seems to be useful for.” Grumbled Chili Pepper Cookie as she put her daggers away.
“I think we're on the right path once more!” Custard announced, raising his staff towards where the girl disappeared off to. “Let us follow that lady and her…ehe, villagers!”
Custard grabbed your hand tugging you towards the woods. “Come on, (Reader) Cookie!”
“Ah, you don’t have to tug…” You mumbled, following anyways. You had to bend down some since Custard was rather short.
The other 4 soon followed behind. Custard and you leading, behind you was Gingerbrave, after was Strawberry, then Wizard, then Chili Pepper.
“Wait a moment! Why am I in the back?!” Complained Chili Pepper.
“Because, you're the loudest.” Said back Wizard, still healing his wound.
“What does that mean!--” she started again before Gingerbrave cut her off.
“Wait a moment, that girl used us as bait for the wafflebots before running away!” He spoke.
“I suppose she did, didn't she..?” You piped up.
“Maybe she was scared?” Suggested Strawberry Cookie.
“She wasn’t scared to yell.” Chili Pepper Cookie said back.
“Well there's a difference between yelling and fighting.” You reasoned, glancing back and giving a comforting smile. “I’m sure there's a reason why she ran.” You spoke.
“There's a village!” Exclaimed Custard, raising his staff again.
“Shes there too!” Yelled Chili Pepper who raged forward, rushing past the rest of us.
“So much for being in the back.” Huffed Wizard who followed, followed by Strawberry Cookie and Gingerbrave, taking out their weapons.
“YOU! YOU USED US AS BAIT!!”
“Diplomacy!” Custard yelled as you two followed slower, though Custard was dragging you now that Chili Pepper was screaming.
“You!- How’d you manage to get past the wafflebots?” The girl asked, looking stunned.
“We defeated them!” Said Gingerbrave proudly.
The villagers surrounding Black Raisin Cookie began murmuring.
“I don’t trust them…” “It must be a trick!” “They defeated…the wafflebots?”
“Perhaps you were conspiring with them.” Spoke Black Raisin Cookie, stepping forward in a defensive position.
“What?!” Gingerbrave spoke.
“SAY THAT AGAIN I YA FUC–” started Chili Pepper.
“Chili Pepper!” you scolded. You sighed. “Look, I apologize for my friends here. They have rather short tempers. One of them is injured; were just like you. Just trying to survive.” You tried to reason with the girl.
She seemed to have considered it for a moment, her eyes briefly softening before hardening again into the scowl she had when you first laid eyes on her. “I know better than to trust an outlander! And so many at once too!” She spoke, drawing her weapon. “Get out of my sight!”
“Run! RUN!” Yelled Gingerbrave quickly ushering us to run. You pulled Custard this time instead of the other way around, following Gingerbrave towards a tent. Though the group of villagers and Black Raisin were closing in.
When we sped into the tent, they all followed. It was a dimly lit tent, smelling of rubbing alcohol and something more…warm. Vanilla-y.
“GOT YA!” She said, drawing her sword in a defensive position but still hesitating to strike just yet.
The villagers began to surround us uncomfortably, but began bleeding into a more closed off section of the tent. “It shall take more than that to stop us!” Yelled Wizard Cookie. Though Black Raisin seemingly began to panic as the villagers bombarded into the other area as well.
“No! Wait! Not towards that way–” She yelled before being cut off. “ENOUGH!” Yelled a cookie, emerging from the closed off wing.
The cookie was tall, rather skinny looking. His hair was blonde, though the ends were dirty. Not greasy, just dirty. Like a sandy dirty blonde. His skin was tan, though part of his face was covered from the tip of his nose above with dirty bandages. His head was covered with a brown hood shawl that also continued down, wrapping around his upper torso. The rest of his clothes was an odd rag like robe stitched down to the floor. He was holding a staff, though its head was wrapped in bandages as well.
“My patients need quiet.” He huffed, hands on his hips. “Please, do not disturb their healing and rest.”
“But Healer Cookie!
They've breached our village!” Black Raisin tried to reason with the man. So that was his name, Healer Cookie.
“Wafflebots? Here? Where?!” Healer Cookie whipped his head around, l
“No, Healer Cookie. Not Wafflebots. These Cookies.”
You were standing front and center in front of Raisin, trying to protect the others with your body. Though of course, the ever so courageous and diplomatic Custard Cookie III had to make himself known to the new cookie. Who seemed diplomatic and reasonable enough to him; though so far as you can tell, that wouldn't have stopped him if he wasn’t.
“AHEM! GREETINGS! HI! NEWLY MET COOKIES!"
"I am here to become your new king!” Custard announced proudly, stepping out in front of you. Instinctively you grabbed the back of Custard Cookie III’s cape. Ready to pull him back if things got sour.
“See? These outlanders would dare to-” Just then Healer Cookie began smacking the back of Black Raisin Cookie with his staff. “OW! Healer Cookie!? That hurt! OW!”
“Take a good look at these travelers, Black Raisin Cookie!” Healer Cookie spoke, gesturing towards us, with his hand now on her back instead. “Certainly, they are not our foes. They are but children! Don't close off your soul to strangers' help.”1
“Such wise words!” Custard Cookie was now currently beaming, glad to find someone so similarly open to strangers. “I, Custard Cookie III, also wish for peace between us, sir! Please!”
“Let them come inside, Black Raisin Cookie.I'm sure everyone can't wait to hear our guests' story. Even my staff wants to say "hi"!” Healer Cookie spoke, grinning happily at his joke. Or what we all think is one? “Now, now. Cookies from afar! Let us share the roof tonight! Our humble village welcomes you!”
“Thank you!” Custard Cookie said, running up to the man, shaking his open hand in which Healer Cookie only smiled and kneeled to speak to Custard.
The cookie was rather fatherly towards Custard, looking very interested at whatever the little boy was going off on about while he nodded with a smile.
“C’mon reader Cookie!” Custard said happily, a little too loud seemingly for Healer Cookies liking.
You sighed, walking up. “You don’t have to yell, y’know…I can hear you well enough.” You spoke.
“That would be rather appreciated.” Healer Cookie said with a chuckle as he stood up to greet you, holding out his hand to which you took to shake. That was until he bowed gracefully, kissing the back of your hand. Not…romantically, just out of respect. “Thank you all for your help with the wafflebots, but I have some things I need to attend to. Please excuse me.” He said before turning and going back behind the divider where the patients were.
“What a gentleman.” You mumbled.
