Fun involvement with youth!!!
Doing fun activities with your children is a great way to empower them and ensure a positive family connection. Here's a great opportunity to have fun and spend quality time with your family: FREE Family Fun Workshop: 10 AM – 12 Noon Saturday, April 13, 10a-12p at the Carnegie Center, 201 E. Spring Street in New Albany. Participants will make Paper Kites using a paper lunch bag, crayons, markers, glitter, sequins, yarn, streamers, fabric strips, and popsicle sticks. Wondering how to empower youth? - Include young people as active participants in events. - Encourage teenagers to take leadership roles in their community. - Do simple acts of community service together - Give young people appropriate and important responsibilities within the family. - Teach children and youth how to be safe wherever they go.
   2 and 3 students in New Albany and Floyd County report that adults in the community do NOT value youth. Here are some ways in which you can show your children that you value them: - Play and laugh with your kids. - Compliment your kids on the good things they do. - Admit your mistakes and say you're sorry. - Turn off the TV. - Meet your children's friends- and their friends' parents. - Eat together as a family whenever possible. - Read aloud with your child. - Be excited about your child's interests. - Ask for your child's opinion. - Attend parent-teacher conferences and other school events. - Spend regular one-on-one time with each of your children. - Do volunteer work with your kids. - Tell your kids how terrific they are. - Ask your kids to help with planning a party or other event. - Exercise together as a family. - Surprise your child with something that will make her or him feel special. -Tell your kids you love them every day, no matter what.
