“The above post is why I am very grumpy with people talking real world politics in open chat (like in general and in trade.)I play on an BIG US RP server. I personally have paid 15$ a month and for every expansion so I can ESCAPE THE REAL WORLD and take a deep breath to enjoy the pure pleasure of the game and friends who like the game. We talk about the game and we talk about the plot. We find commonality in that and I don't have to dwell on if my guildmates or random people I interact with are a danger to me or will harass me.So often when trade chat dissolves into political or social commentary circle jerks - I just tell them "You realize REAL PEOPLE play this game and you are ruining our experience of the game by clogging game channels for game stuff, with commentary that should be on reddit?"Nurses, doctors, and every person out there with a stressful job, family, or kids DESERVES a FREAKING 1-3 hours or more of PEACE FROM THIS MASSIVE MESS. It was bad before 2020, but now - please give us PEACE! PEACE to play a silly fantasy game and enjoy the pure pleasure of socialization over a shared love that transcends who we are IRL.I know many of our younger players or new players don't understand the idea of "Internet Disinhibition" or how being online changes your normal thresholds of behavior. Humans aren't designed to see text in chat or even avatars as the REAL PEOPLE behind them, thusly act like aholes to each other.And sure, I know they are displacing the angry, confusion, and trauma on WoW and in chat. BUT there are better places to deal with the fact you can't talk about this with family, you don't feel safe expressing your ideas or trying to work through IRL, and you have not found reddit or other places to post and get feedback.Still, remember the people in game who DESERVE A BREAK FROM THE REAL WORLD and STFU about real world stuff while in game. Save it for discord, reddit, and whatever - just play, have fun, and if you are paying 15$ a month and NOT HAVING FUN, perhaps find a game that make you happy - instead making millions of people miserable.MMORPGS are about PEOPLE PLAYING WITH PEOPLE IN A MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER ENVIRONMENT!!! The only reason WoW is still playing is because of the PEOPLE aspect and the social aspect - we have 16+ year relationships with people we've never met IRL. SO please - give us all a break every night to have fun!“
