Something to get this blog started...
OK, I've had this blog open for weeks now, with no posts or anything. Â So, just to break the ice, I'll mention that I hope to blog on running, all things math/quantitative in nature, behavioral finance, politics, theology, social issues and what I presume will be a long list of stupid comments said by the anchors on CNBC's Squawk Box. Â It is amazing to me how smart people who say they are for free markets apparently have little grasp of free market economics. Â I have yet to hear Joe Kernen correctly use the word "externality" in a sentence.
On the topic of running, I am currently training for my 11th marathon this Fall, and I've already registered for another one in January. Â I came into running later in life, not too long after turning 30. Â Basically, I needed to lose weight - 50lbs to be specific -and so I started exercising. Â Turns out I like the feeling of getting my heart rate elevated and just going and going and going. Â Running fast isn't my thing - I do some speed work, but it's not nearly as much fun as settling into a comfortable pace and running for half an hour or an hour or more. Â It gets almost mystical ... and I am not a person who in any way believes in mysticism. Â But most days, I truly have no idea of where my mind goes during a long run. Â An hour can simply disappear, with no real memories of what happened during that time. Â Not an unusual experience I know, but it's still cool.
