Makishima finds it hard to keep friends. Heās just weird, quirky, and not exactly the most obedient or law-abiding person. Human bonds are just such a bother to him and his purposes, and he discards many of them with ease. Then he meets Choe Gu Sung, and the Korean is not like anyone heās ever dealt with before. Someone intent on getting to know his partner in crime better, someone who goes out of his way to talk about common topics unrelated to their plans. It brings to him a curious mix of confusion, happiness and fondness, which is strangely not altogether bad. He ponders over it, and decides he can try his hand at this thing calledĀ āfriendshipā a while longer.

Makishima has never received familial love his whole life. His parents donāt care, the hired help donāt care, and certainly no one else cares. Which is why when a butler shows him concern as an adult to a young child, heās shocked, but at the same time...really happy. Itās a bond he treasures, until his parents fire him forĀ āstepping out of lineā toĀ ācare unnecessarilyā. Then the arson happens, and if Makishima could change just one thing that day, it would be for his beloved butler to never have come back in secret to visit.

Makishima has many, many pets. He doesnāt have many human playmates, and so he stays in the company of furrier, scalier and less intelligent ones. He pays them all equal attention, but he doesnāt hide the fact that his favourite is a white tiger genetically modified for him at his request. His upbringing means he canāt say much of anything to anyone, for fear that either he or they could get hurt. So every night, under the covers with his beloved kitty right beside him, he takes comfort in having a quiet and non-judgemental listening ear.

Makishima is the only child of a wealthy family. His mother is a trophy wife who cares more about appearances and the family business than her own child. His father is a shrewd businessman who wants nothing but a perfect heir to pass his perfect empire to. Recreational family time is simply nonexistent, and it seems like thatās just how far their relationships as parent and child go.

He grows up with odd quirks and a mind thirsty for knowledge neither his tutors nor the vast library in his familyās mansion can provide. His life is as boring as it gets, and he canāt help but aspire for something else; chaos in a world of order for example, and he works towards his dream.
