some might say it’s the start of chaos, some might decide there’s worse to come. zach, he doesn’t really mind. aside from the obvious side effects of this public announcement, he doesn’t think much will change. people will regard protos with suspicion for a while and the protos - if they’re smart in any way - will lay low. the ones actually sentient will pretend not to be, and the ones who aren’t will just follow programming anyway. it’s no big deal.
what is more of a big deal, he realises after a few minutes of walking, are the people seemingly following him through the streets. he hasn’t looked back yet so he can’t determine how many there are, but he curses the fact that his guarding proto isn’t currently around. there’s no way to call the proto to him on time either. besides, the proto is currently guarding his secrets, and he doesn’t put it past some people to try and beat him up as a distraction.
so he merely keeps on walking, until suddenly five people block the way ahead, and he finds himself turning into an alley there is clearly no escape from. well, he could try climbing the wall at the end, but he’s pretty sure there’s some barbed wire at the top and that it’s too sleek to get a grip on, so he’d rather stand and face his attackers than give them the satisfaction of watching him try to run. he walks on far enough for there to be no way they can slip behind him easily, then turns around and faces the people coming for him.
a quick headcount tells him there’s about ten, and he can’t help but scoff in disdain, eyebrows drawing together. perhaps he should take it as a compliment to his endurance that they think they need ten people to take him out. especially in an alleyway where he’s got very little to defend himself with while they’re all carrying weaponry of some sort. luckily no guns that he can see, probably to keep the sound of shots from pulling other people to the situation.
then again, would anyone really come running into a dark alleyway to aide a total stranger when gunshots were heard? probably not. and so zachary takes in a deep breath, calmly straightens up, and waits for them to come at him so he can defend himself to his best ability. and a part of him, despite his usual uncaring attitude and the arrogance of a highborn, prepares to die.
