Gympie Muster : Day Three
Friday
Freezing cold night! Times like these you really needed a spooner! What better pick me up than a shower with no hot water – Great start to the day, on the bright side, it’s a beautiful sunny day.
Busy day at 98.9 HQ today – Interviews and live recordings with Simply Bushed, Busby Marou, Tracey Killeen, Halfway and Neil Murray. Simply Bushed did their song and replaced a name with my name – cool man.
Tonight I’m on air – everything going perfectly until Paul presses the wrong button – much to his disbelief – we have a little tiff (not an argument) which Luke catches on video – Jasmine Rae starts – I’m out of the studio by 8pm ready to hit the town….errr paddock?
Tonights line-up on main stage is McAlister Kemp, The McClymonts and James Reyne. I was pleasantly surprised with James Reyne, sounded like Sting.. The others did far too many covers for my liking, but the sound was quite good. And so it should be after the main stage soundys had Jack Johnson “Better Together” playing on repeat for a good 4 hours.
The lads have a brilliant new invention – The Mando Bar – A Mandolin Case full of Toohey’s. Big enough to hold a substantial amount of booze and small enough to be able to carry around.
The night went quite quick and it wasn’t long before I retreated back to 989 HQ camp where Dale / Luke / Karen / Marky-Mark / Jackie and Alannah were hanging around the campfire drinking Merlot from a milk carton (not a bad grape at that) and before long Lukey had the guitar out taking requests.. which soon ended up in a blues freestyle – Luke on guitar – Myself on vocals, very dodgy rough man-like sounding blues voice using words like “Baby why don’t you come home to me” and repeating them in different ways, because that’s what they do isn’t it? It all turned to hell when I tried to play the ‘Horn’(that one’s for Tim, John, Elwin and Liam)
Jack Fraser strolls back to camp and confesses that he was taken to security and his licence taken off him because he was caught Underage in the Crow Bar, taking a sip of XXXX. We all start coming up with excuses of how pouring the beer into the mouth was an accident *Who the hell is this – a lone cowgirl stumbles through – and when I say Stumbles – it’s more like wonky stampede – not knowing how to get out, she’s trapped and is at a dead end, when she decides to charge her way through the closed up Beef Jerky tent – after a lot of noise and taring she’s made it out the other side and back on track.
Tomorrow things really start to get pumpin! More People, More Rum and…Jimmy Barnes.
