Gold
Gold is the most widely used metal in jewelry. It is found in different purity levels such as 9k, 14k and 18k. Apart from this, it is also mixed with other metals such as copper, platinum etc. to make different alloys of gold. Common gold alloys are yellow gold, rose gold and white gold.
2. Silver
Silver is the cheapest but good metal of the lot. It can be easy found in many compositions such as 925 Silver, Argentium Silver and 950 silver. There are certain problems with silver alloys as well. One of the biggest one is tarnishing. Tarnishing does silver to appear black in color and overall appearance is gone.
3. Platinum
Platinum is one of the most expensive metals used in jewelry. People use this metal as a replacement of white gold because it is more shiner and durable. Yes, you have to pay a lot of money for this metal but the overall benefit with it is useful.
4. Copper
Copper is another metal used in jewelry. Copper jewelry is mostly used as costume jewelry. As it can tarnish easily, faster than silver, it is used for short span of time. That's why people wear copper jewelry plated with any other metal which can save it from tarnishing.

This choice is up to the person who is buying the metal. If you want to stick with some traditional metal, then gold is the best choice. It is always better to buy gold jewelry in high purity level as 14k or 18k. Silver is a good metal if you are going to wear it for a short time. Platinum is one metal which can be used by people if they have a lot of money to pay. Copper jewelry should not be worn by anyone if they dont need much jewelry. If you go to parties and events a lot, then you will need a lot of jewelry. And copper jewelry can be a good replacement for it.
