Potting a Grado cartridge.

Grado cartridges have a dark potting material around the coils.

With age and stylus swaps it can get off and/or smear the connections. Beeswax or similar products can effectively replace it. I used some from my wife's lip balm, pre-heated enough to make it fluid so I could dab it around the coils with a toothpick.

It is very important to be careful when removing the old material, since the coils are really delicate!

Here are my two repotted Grado cartridges: a Signature 8MX from 1986 and a Prestige Gold from 2005.
