A man's chapeau is his château.
Alistair Smith, Maker of Quotes
Last night was the most amazing of the nights
Last night I went to An Evening With Amanda Palmer and Neil Gaiman, which was amazing. Neil read some brand new writing and poetry, Amanda played kickass songs on the uke and piano, it was insane.
She finished on Ukulele Anthem, so I held my uke up in the air at the standing O. Alistair and I had to skip the signing line to go to the soundcheck for my first ever solo gig, but I tweeted her on the way:
I went on stage, with the Ukulele Queen herself's blessing.
Smashed it, as many said. I was SO nervous, but the other band (Zopa and the Shakes, who are AMAZING) were really supportive and sat in the front row, wooping and hollering throughout. People laughed at my jokes! People applauded my songs! The nerdfighters sang harmonised back-up vocals to Dear Mr Baynton! Other people who I didn't know sang along to 'The Road', a Frank Turner cover I did!
Alistair and Jimmy missed the last train, so they and Philip and I stayed out til 5am to kill time til the first train. I staggered home, finally getting in at 6ish, still jittery from caffeine, alcohol and nerves. But this was the most incredible night.
Thank you to everyone who made it so amazing. I still can hardly believe that was me.
Incidentally, my album comes out very soon. So watch out for that. Because, judging by last night, you will probably enjoy it.
