Jay, a former baseball player, recruited out of high school, a scholarship athlete. Jay and I connected on Instagram. From his Instagram I thought he was only in town briefly. Take a look at his insta and you’ll see why. He’s executed projects globally. Jay & his firm are responsible for the tasteful renovation of The 838. A mix of old like the Carrara marble wall in the front lobby to the new walnut paneled walls. The biggest coup was removing the back wall that blocked the view of the Pool. Now dramatic glass doors allow one to make an entrance to the sparkling swimming pool and walled fountain beyond. So as you enter the front of the building and make your way through the lobby your eye will lead you straight out to the pool. That’s just the first Pool Lounge area. The rooftop pool with 360 degree views of LA from Downtown to Santa Monica and up into the Hollywood Hills above Sunset. It’s a magical place #838Doheny ••• on a side note. Jay and I had just met. We spoke about his work, the building, other projects and than I asked my usual question. ( no matter where I am I ask it ) So how did you get to .... in this case ... to LA? Remember I had viewed his insta and thought he lived abroad. Nope. A native LA dude. Recruited to Oklahoma to play baseball. Ended up in the minor leagues. Here’s the clincher. He pitched against my cousin Pete Incaviglia. It was the first time I’d uttered that Name in 26 years since o wrote my press release upon return to San Francisco. Of course I highlighted cousin Joe too. My new friend Jay not only knew of my cousin but played the same time as Pete and pitched against him... yes and had struck him out too. Jay went on to Share that Pete holds the highest record for hits ... 💯 hits in 3 games. Wow 😮 pretty amazing. What a beautiful few days meeting Sophie of Shape House one day and Jay Reynolds the next.
