#80s alternative

I’m wearing a 60s or 70s (I think) embroidered short sleeved silk tang jacket as a shirt. These are often incorrectly called mandarin jackets. The tang jacket derives from riding jackets worn by Manchu horsemen. A shame you can’t really see the beautiful hand embroidery in any of these shots.

On top of that I’m wearing a herringbone black and tan men’s wool vest of indeterminate age.

The suit jacket is a men’s suit jacket from the 1960s. It is the same jacket I wore to the premiere of the shards.

The skirt I’m wearing is from the 1960s and appears to be a home sewing project.

The shoes are soft pig suede Hush Puppies brand shoes, and although this pair seems to be relatively modern, they are the same style of “desert” or “chukka” boot that was popular around the 70s and beginning of the 80s.

The tights seem to be modern, they were thrifted new in package, but you can see similar lurex legwear as far back as the 1960s.

The hat is seemingly fairly modern, although it’s a classic enough style to fit in with the 80s look.

The handbag had a receipt in it from 1985 when I thrifted it, although I believe it to be much older, from the 50s or 60s.

The crochet gloves were mailed to me by a follower, with the suggestion that I dye them black, which I did. The last decade women were really expected to wear gloves is the 1960s, but being homemade, there are no tags of any sort on the gloves so I’m not sure of the age.

Regardless of the actual age of the rhinestone earrings and necklace, it’s the sort of style popular in the mid-century, and by extension, the sort of thing people would’ve been thrifting in the 80s.

The silver pin is mid-century, and the gold tone question mark pin is from about WW2

The large brass bangle on my right wrist is probably from the 70s or early 80s
