You didn't create me with dark magic, Callum. I have always been a part of you.

I think this is one of the best (small?) ways arc 2 completes its complication of well, life and breaking the cycle, in ways that diverge from arc 1. In season 3 in particular, we're presented with two scenarios of ending the fighting — Sol Regem says he will spare Elarion if Ziard gives up his staff/dark magic, and the kids bringing home Zym successfully causes Zubeia to end conflict with the Pentarchy — one that doesn't work 'because' the staff is notably not lowered, and one that works: one good turn causes another.

Just because you do the right thing, or kindness, or a lack of hostility, or give another chance, does not mean the other person is going to do the same or take said chance. Instead, they might cling to their old path. Instead, they might escalate, and hurt you.

Rayla being unable to conceive of a world where people would make blatantly false promises because she did the same thing (for similar reasons) to Callum once and it was accordingly her biggest regret is like honey, you got a Big arc 3 storm coming. (It is also very funny because despite Rayla being a pretty consistent liar with Callum likewise continuing on in that direction, Rayla still always generally believes people are being like 100% honest unless she literally Knows 100% that they're lying with S3 Nyx as like, her exception.)

Then we get a few interesting things back to back in a pretty short time span.

The theme of food and illusions coinciding again, for whatever reason

We get two falsehoods or false perceptions revealed one after the other

The first falsehood is the pearl in the Starscraper being fake, whereas the real one was left in Katolis

Neither Callum nor Rayla realized this, and Callum realizes he didn't do what he thought he did, realizing his perception of events and memory was just flat out wrong

I may die alongside my daughter? This is your mercy?
