I don't even know what to say to describe how much I fucking love you Roger, honestly. The sass, the confidence, the smartness, (the beauty), EVERYTHING makes you who you are and that hasn't changed at all. Seeing you joke around with Brian and Adam in the live q&a just shows that you really haven't changed. What an incredible person you are, really. Happy 73rd birthday old man ❤️❤️❤️

One step. You match it.

Another. You bob back.

Rooster trips up. 

You don’t let him pass.

You mirror the trooper’s dodging -- successfully stopping him in his tracks before you; he comes to rest only hesitantly. 

It’s almost comical -- the way you block Rooster’s exit from the stiff, uncomfortable air of the elevator. Without tearing your eyes from him, your hand moves to unceremoniously punch the button that seals the door behind you on the lift’s panel. 

His visit to Triage in the medical wing can wait.

Rooster thanks every star in the galaxy he’s got his helmet on. It hides his discomfort. Or so he thinks.

You can feel it radiating off him in waves.

It’s been this way for the last month.

“You’re mad at me.”

Suddenly, Rooster’s mouth goes dry. Are you really doing this? Right now? Here? He -- nine hells, he doesn’t want to shove you out of the way to run from this conversation but boy is he’s close...

“Rooster.”

“I’m --” a broken sigh, some that’s tied between irriation and anger, “I have to see Triage.”

Something akin to disapointment -- an icier variation pointed with anger -- rises to adorn the planes of your usually kind looking face. Rooster misses it the moment the expression is gone. In a twisted way, you’re still gut-wrenchingly beautiful and terribly his type but...

Now, you’re mad with him.

“Fine.”

Son of a bitch, this -- this isn’t what he meant to happen. But, this isn’t the time nor place nor... nor thing he needs to be talking about with you in a lift at ten o’ clock at night after a two day mission. 

Rooster is almost upset when you step aside. 

He just... stands there. And blinks.

You can’t see any of it. In fact, you’ve wrapped your arms so tightly around yourself Rooster would think you’re trying to keep yourself from crawling out of your skin if he didn’t know any better. The look on your face is one that makes him feel like you’re two beats from crying and --

Shit. 

“I’m not mad at you.”

You look up at the cold visor that moves to stand between the open doors.

“I just have... a lot on my mind.”

That does fuck all to ease any sort of hurt tighetning in your throat and it shows.

 Rooster curses under his breathe. He’s.... not good at this. Not when -- not when Triage is calling his name over his shoulder and Rooster lets his hand slip from the frame of the doors. 

They close a breath later, and Rooster tries to ignore the fact he’d caught you wiping away a tear as the durasteel doors slide closed and the elevator plunges to the barracks. 

“Everything okay?” Triage asks, a hand on the trooper’s shoulder.
