⋆。°✩ mga season four. iv. ⇢ audition. extra skill. beatboxing ( 0:10 - 0:40 ) & piano ( 0:00 - 1:28 )
he’s brought into a separate room with a piano and he already knows what’s going to happen. truth be told though, not many people would’ve expected someone like haknyeon (someone so childish, loud and well... him-like) to enjoy playing the piano as much as he does.
though they don’t ask him to play the piano immediately, instead, they look through his profile before looking back up at him.
“it says here that you can ... imitate an electric guitar? could you show us a little bit of that?”
haknyeon nods before he stands up straight before he closes his eyes. “so this is... an electric guitar!” he takes in a deep breath and lets out the highest pitch noise possible, attempts to have the riff of an electric guitar come out too. one more time, a note higher. his eyebrows arch and he stands on the tip of his toes to let the high note out before he bows to the panel.
their reactions are a little unreadable before the staff continues on.
“and that you can beatbox as well? could you show us that?”
“right!”
beatboxing was something he’d picked up years ago from a few older friends, something that actually got him interested in rap. haknyeon’s no stranger to beatboxing and for some reason, feels a little more confident beatboxing than he was... imitating an electric guitar.
he does a quick rendition of pop it like it’s hot –– throat working at the same time as his mouth as lips make popping noises and his tongue clicks against the roof of his mouth. he’s careful to put a hand over his mouth though, not wanting to accidentally spit on anyone.
as he reaches the end of beatbox he smiles and nods his head. they nod back before they usher him to the piano.
“so we’d like to see some of your piano skills. feel free to play whatever you’d like.”
this, now this he could do. truth be told haknyeon had contemplated over showcasing his guitar skills or piano skills but he’d always felt more comfortable on the piano than he did with his guitar. his parents too never actually complained about him being part of noise pollution whenever he played his piano. so that helped with his decision (that and the fact that haknyeon didn’t want to bring around a guitar with him the whole day).
he sits behind the piano and rolls his arms back before stretching his fingers. it’s still pretty early in the morning and he wants to wake them up.
gently he presses on a few keys before he nods his head. “i’ll play a pretty popular song!” he smiles. “versace on the floor by bruno mars. it’s a personal favourite,” he lets out a shy laugh before he turns back to the piano.
a deep breath before he begins. his fingers press on the key of the piano as he begins –– it’s not an exactly soft song; but it’s sensual, has meaning to it. haknyeon’s read up the translation of the song.
still, he loves it and he tries to get deep into the song as he plays, fingers against the piano. he likes this feeling, of playing the piano. it’s never been an image that’s quite matched him but he’s always fooling around in school, has gotten in trouble for playing the piano at times when he shouldn’t (ie; skipping class).
his head bops lightly as he plays the piano, adds little twists to the song and there’s a gentle smile that he graces his lips. he doesn’t play the whole song, just up till a certain part –– he knows he can’t take too long. before he looks back at the panel and nods his head. “hehe... yeah,” he smiles, cheeks turning a little red.
they smile back and (finally) tell him that he’s done with this portion of the audition.
“you can to the break room and have a twenty minute rest. then be sure to come to the practice room you were in before. good job.”
and haknyeon smiles wide, the words “yes! food!” leaving his lips before he can stop himself. he covers his hands with his mouth immediately before bowing towards all the staff members. “thank you for your time!”
