BR Standard Class 8 N°. 71000 Duke Of Gloucester passing through Wrexham General station on a loaded test run to Shrewsbury in preparation for a private charter tomorrow. The Duke is the sole member of a proposed Class 8 that was deemed a failure during BR days due to poor performance caused by ill fitting or inadequate parts that strayed away from the original drawings. It wasn’t until it was preserved where these defects were corrected and it went on to become one of the most powerful steam loco to run on the mainline in recent years.
