anyways. asexual dream who has a lot of fun talking & flirting with people, even sexting, but as soon as things start looking like they might turn a little more tangible, might progress to actually meeting up with someone, he suddenly loses interest.

george and sapnap, who have "considered" a poly relationship with dream in the past, aren't an exception to this rule either, except for all the ways that they are. dream not exactly wanting to sleep with them, but also not exactly minding intimacy with them, knowing that long before they were interested in him as a sexual partner, they viewed him as a friend first. dream who feels relieved that gnap relieve tension with one another without expecting him to join (although they always make it a point to offer).

dream still not feeling what he "should" even if he accepts, so he reasons that he's missing something crucial, some sort of connection that's going to make things click into place for him. dream continuing to experiment with other people, each time bowing out before it turns real, knowing (hoping) that as soon as he figures out what's going wrong, he'll be able to give george and sapnap the relationship they deserve.

this fic was part of a thought exercise where i just put the dream team into situations <3 this particular situation is dteam dealing with the horror-movie setup of serial killer/cabin the woods.

something something they go out into the woods to film minecraft manhunt irl but they don't know there's Lore about the cabin they rented. they're the intended victims of a serial killer but instead of falling apart in adversity or blaming one another when they become the hunted, the dream team is used to picking up the slack for one another and anticipating each other's thoughts/actions like it's second nature (albeit in much different circumstances). either they all die trying to save one another or they’re all the Final Girl. i haven’t decided yet :3

sapnap and george having fun chasing dream through the woods and bickering good-naturedly about the clues he's left them. and then it rapidly becomes much less fun when they stumble across a small clearing where it becomes evident that something went very, very wrong.

"George," Sapnap called, retreating back across the clearing to the safety of the older man’s presence. “Did you see this?” George must have heard the hesitant note in his voice because instead of poking fun at Sapnap’s jumpiness, he looked over, dark eyes serious for once. His gaze tracked from Sapnap’s pale face, to his outstretched hand pointing, to the dark red smeared across a small patch of the moss blanketing the forest floor. — Dream panted, leaning against the rough bark of the tree. He felt exposed, even underneath the awning of dense foliage overhead. His shoulder throbbed underneath his hand, palm slick and hot with blood.

dream not being able to stop thinking about how loyal sapnap used to be to him before he felt betrayed and abandoned... thinking about how sapnap is perhaps the only person on the server who can match techno in strength... thinking about how sapnap had tears in his eyes when he promised to kill dream...

dream breaking out of prison and deciding that the smartest move to make is getting sapnap back on his side where he can rely on all that strength and power and loyalty and passion to be wielded for dream's benefit

dream getting the drop on sapnap bc sapnap has been patrolling kinoko kingdom relentlessly since dream broke out, to the point of exhaustion. dream locking sapnap up and sapnap telling dream that people will miss him, will come and rescue him if sapnap doesn't get out on his own first. dream laughing and telling sapnap that he's been watching, that he knows that sapnap is alone - quackity obsessed with his own country, karl not even recognizing him half the time, george asleep, bad possessed...

sapnap fights and yells and struggles bc that's what he thinks he should do. (but underneath it all, there's a part of sapnap that's crying out in relief because it finally feels like dream is seeing him again, is looking at him like sapnap can be trusted, like sapnap is wanted. it's not the same as it was, it can't ever be, but maybe it could be enough.)
