TDP is always an elegantly written show, but I do think 6x09 is one of the best written episodes in the whole show. Like, a lot of the episodes follow dualistic plotlines to provide contrast (1x06, 2x06, 4x01, 5x08 just to name a few) and build towards thematic layering, but 6x09 is one of the best, I think. Like, we have Aaravos and Rayla, who are always circling each other as foils, as Rayla improves past where Aaravos has been stuck ("I was on a quest for revenge, but now this is a journey of redemption" vs "he isn't doing anything for love, he's doing it for revenge") and this episode is no exception. Not only do we have Rayla choosing to let her parents' go (and move on) vs learning why Aaravos has been unable or unwilling to let go for centuries, but we also see Rayla prioritizing her family staying together (her parents remaining together; Runaan and Ethari being reunited) over separation ("where will i go?" "to go on without her would mean an eternity of pain" / "where we're going, we'll have each other" + "i may die alongside my daughter? this is your mercy?"), even if both Rayla and Aaravos are defined by their Agency ("i chose to live" / "how am i supposed to choose-?").
Layered on top of all of that, we have Aaravos' final words to Leola being another take on Rayla's lullaby, which in turn parallels Callum's one truth scene.
