hmmmmmmmm so like, are we going to just.... not acknowledge that Jon is still learning to read social cues rather than just Knowing how someone is feeling or what someone is thinking and may not have fully realized that Martin was that scared until Jon paused to actually ask him? and are we going to just ignore that they had a whole ass conversation about their feelings on the matter, either way, and Jon, a grown ass man, gave the decision to Martin because its important that Martin has a choice too? and that Martin, also a grown ass man, and by now knows Jon to be stubborn and that the nature of being the Archivist makes it impossible to not seek things out, gave the decision back to Jon? That Martin, a grown ass man in a grown ass relationship, giving the decision back to Jon meant he was accepting the outcome, no matter what, even if he was terrified of it? that yeah they could avoid this one, but they would be avoiding it just to reach another terrifying place, and avoiding it would prolong their journey? like we are just ignoring that they live in a hell scape designed to incite terror and fear and that eventually they would reach a place that scared them more than the others? and that yeah, Jon was driven by revenge mostly, but it wasn't "petty" as it was also revenge for what she did to the countless victims in her long life? that her scarring him played such a huge role and that he needed to know if she had known all along?
just.... are we going to ignore the entire conversation leading up to going into the desolation's domain, where Jon and Martin lay it all out and come to a decision as grown ass adults in a grown ass relationship during the apocalypse, during which they would have had to deal with the desolation anyway? yes, Martin wasn't happy with it! yes, Jon was possibly frustrated with Martin's seemingly sudden apprehension with moving forward! as ppl have pointed out, they've already gone thru horrific hellscapes, so what evidence did Jon have that this one would bother Martin so much? like i as a listener was shocked to find out how scared Martin was of fire!
this doesn't spell "doom" for their relationship, or that either of them were wrong, or what Jon did was cruel like.....
they're doing their best and it frustrates me that such good writing is being boiled down to "Jon is heartless and being terrible to Martin :("
