I made a sketchy stop motion! Skizz faces the consequences of his actions builds and is so brave about it. Obviously.

Then of course he runs to Impulse to make sure he's ok and not scared. Cause Skizz is definitely fine and not freaking out. Why would you ask that.
No sound because I don't know how to do that yet. I mostly just wanted to see if I had the patience to attempt this. And this is what came of it.
I think if I spend a little more time getting a stable set up and try out a couple different ways to rig the little guys I could make something better. Skizz kept falling over and every time he did his head rolled away. So that was a challenge, but not too bad.
I have a clip in mind from a repo stream I want to try and do eventually. I just need to figure out how to get the sound and then figure out how I'm supposed to time stop motion to an existing sound...

Low quality photo of these guys again but I've made Skizz now and I again am too amused by these little guys sitting on my desk to wait for sunlight to get good pictures of them.
Also currently working on the next chapter of The construction site and they are sitting by my computer. So it sort of looks like Skizz is screaming in horror about what I'm putting them through in my story...
In other news, I made this Skizz way differently than I did with Impulse so he's super pose-able. And I'm toying with the idea of trying to make a stop motion with them because it could be funny. So if anyone has any advice on how to extract a sound clip from a youtube video or advice for stop motion in general that'd be much appreciated.
I finished the abomination /affectionate and I need to post this because he just keeps staring at me. I think this is the fastest I've ever conceptualized a project and then completed it but it's taken me twice as long to make this post as it did to make him. But he's janky and lumpy and I love him.

One of my ideas with this project was to experiment with shaping and no sew techniques here and I would say I learned quite a bit considering the only pieces that are sewn on are the nose and the back legs, everything else including the head was crocheted together.
The head and raised arm were worked as separate pieces too. But for the head I crocheted some short rows while crocheting into a stitch on the neck at each turn on one side. Then I crocheted around the neck and repeated that on the other side till I had the width I wanted for the body at which point I switched to working in the round. I did a similar thing with the raised arm and just holding against the body piece and crocheted around it to connect it when I needed it.
Another thing I messed with on this piece is the direction of the rounds. This piece is actually 'inside out' compared to how I usually work. I was crocheting on the side of the round closest to me rather than the side farther away. I was testing this to see If I liked the texture more because the side of the crochet facing you has those sharp lines between rounds while the side facing away from you is smoother. This way put the lines on the outside.
Also when doing the short rows at the top of the body I actually switched hands to maintain which side of the fabric was facing me so the lines would be consistent between rows and not every other row as they would be if I flipped the piece over. I'm not ambidextrous I'm just stubborn. And this wasn't the first time I made myself crochet with my off hand either. I've actually gotten ok at it. It's just slower than my right hand is.
I was also aiming for as true to form to the original as I could while still working in the round. I could have just made flat pieces in the shapes of the faces of the blocks and sewed them together to get perfectly flat faces and squared off corners, but I wanted to try it in the round, hence the cursed shaping.
I went at it without much of a plan to just kind of see what happened and experimenting as I went. The first indent in the chest actually required increase stitches that I then tucked the excess length inwards. That part was pretty straight forward, but getting the convex corners below that was a lot trickier. It took both increases and decreases in different areas of the round. And the first corner turned out pretty good and square. Some of the others are a little slouchier.
I'm overall happy with the effect and I think it will be easier to mess around with weird shapes on future projects.
Finally got around to taking some better pictures of these guys.
Skizz managed to break something and be dead and alive at the same time. And of course Impulse pops up just in time to see it.

I made Skizz in pieces this time so he's super posable. And both their eyes are blank so I can just use sewing pins to make them look where I want. I've somehow only stabbed myself once doing it so far.
The other main difference with the Skizz one is I made his arms a little longer. I made Impulse's just a little too short.
Also I'm thinking of embroidering health bars on them. I feel like Skizz's would need to be red and almost empty. But I'm not really sure what to do with Impulse's. Ideas and reasoning behind it welcome.
All in all though I'm really happy with how they both came out. The shapes of these robots are pretty simple which I feel like makes them harder cause you just have to nail it. And I think I did. I'm especially pleased with Impulse's version and how crisp I got the line between segments. The two body segments are worked as a single piece. And then his head is like the one I did for Skizz but I sewed it in instead of leaving it separate.
I also want to make alternate body pieces so he can be the shrunk down little version too. And I'm very tempted to make more of the team EGGGIS guys. These are fun to make and I think I want to mess with more stop motion with them too. If I do that I'll also probably remake a posable version of Impulse too.

I'm super pleased with how they came out. I used two different yarn weights for the body and I really like the slight warping that resulted in. Really helps sell the idea it was stitched together from multiple specimens.
And the black stitches over the color changes are inspired by @marvelousstrings and their crochet ZombieCleo! They pack so much detail into their pieces it's incredible.
And as always the pattern I used for my snails is by Crafty Intentions. I'm glad I picked the smallest of the three patterns right now because I would have lost yarn chicken so badly if this one was any bigger.
I made the little hair piece basically a removable wig because I wanted the option to not have it on and keep to a more 'realistic snail'
And I took a couple pictures from before adding the shell because I was so proud of how my color changes and stitching turned out and I wanted to show them off.
The body is done in two pieces, top and bottom, that both start working flat before switching to working in the round around the flat piece. So I had to riddle through the pattern and determine where I was starting and which side was supposed to be the outside so I could appropriately hide the color changes. (I actually got it wrong on both pieces and had to adjust for that as I went, but it worked out fine.)
And since I started with the bottom piece, when doing the top piece I had to be constantly comparing it to the bottom piece to make sure the color changes would line up nicely at the edges. And not to toot my own horn or anything, but I nailed it.
Impulse didn't kill him. He promises. It's Skizz issues.
I've been on a roll with crochet lately. I'll probably take more/better pictures of these two soon, but I wanted to share them. Cause they are just standing on my desk and making me laugh right now.
I think I'll probably make more of them in various degrees of crouched/shrunk. Maybe the EGGGIS crew. (And maybe Skizz will get an alive version too.)
Here's a string of glowberry vines I made mostly as a test. I had grand plans of making tons of it to cover my ceiling with along with some little string lights at one point. But I doubt that'll happen. I think I'd need to change the scale of them for that anyways. But I do like how this one came out.
