WH40K Homebrew Space Marine Chapter: Stormwolves β July 2026 Update
WH40K 11E got its first update today, which means I got to go through all my Armylists to check for points changes and the like. Since my Armylists are fluff-driven and vibes-based and not chasing the meta, points changes don't usually impact me very much at all; several of my lists made it through untouched.
Overall, across my lists, things got cheaper, usually enough to buy another Enhancement or two per list. Where I couldn't add in Enhancements, I had Crucible of Champions Characters who weren't yet maxed out on weapons loadouts; these are a great points sink to bring you back up to the 1K/2K target.
Imperial Guard seemed to have the most drastic cuts for the units I take in my allied lists. I was able to squeeze in a new Heavy Weapons Team in one list and bring back a previously cut Cyclops Demo Vehicle in another.
What I was not prepared for was how much shuffling and points adjustments the Force Dispositions got. Previously Recon and Disruption were tied for most frequent out of my lists, with the other three tied for least frequent. Now Recon is a clear first place, followed by Disruption & Priority Assets in second and Purge The Foe & Take and Hold at the bottom. This better fits the fighting style I like to think my Stormwolves and their allied Rogue Trader forces would be best at, so I'm all for it.
My favorite fix of the new update, however, is the changes made to the Imperial Agents Detachments. They still don't have a proper Army Rule, but GW did correct the ridiculous overcosting of their Detachment Points. All of them are now down to 2DP, which means they'll be playable in 1K point games, except for the Veiled Blade, which dropped to 1DP, making it the bolt-on detachment for 2K point games it always should have been. They also drastically dropped the points costs for Veiled Blade's mandatory Enhancements, making them not patently insane.
Because of this I bumped my 1K Ordo Xenos Armylist to a 2K Ordo Xenos / Veiled Blade list. I was already taking a Vindicare in the list, so I added in a Callidus.
This also gave me the points to add in some more characters to further flesh out the Rogue Trader Fleet my homebrew chapter is allied with: A First Officer and a Master of Whispers from one of the ships in the fleet, represented in rules by a Crucible Character and a Ministorum Priest.
Since this particular list started out as Veiled Blade, it's nice that I now can add that flavor back in.
As is my custom, I'll be linking to my Homebrew "Codex" and my Illustration Gallery in a reply to this post, as that seems to let the original post get more traction.

WH40K Homebrew Space Marine Chapter: Stormwolves β Now For 11th Edition
Games Workshop released the initial batch of 11E points for WH40K, so I've gone through and overhauled all the sample armylists for my Homebrew Marine Chapter.
I ended up trimming down my lone 3K point list to 2K because while the updated App still has it as an option, the 11E rules themselves only talk about 1K and 2K games. Had to ditch a few fun units, but I'll at least keep the art for them around in my gallery.
Aside from that, my other lists only required a little bit of tweaking to conform to the new standard, and what did change looks to open up some fun new options. I'll just have to see what the next season of monthly balance patches brings. Not too worried, when you don't chase the meta like I don't, balance patches usually wash right on over.
I'm keeping my shared gallery the same, but the "Codex" document was copied into a new file to preserve what the Homebrew looked like at the end of 10E. I'll link to the 11E version as well as the gallery in a reblog of this post.
So, 11th Edition for Warhammer 40K was announced. While we don't have full details, I'd say it's looking like it could be the best of all possible outcomes for my Homebrewing efforts.
As my Homebrew Space Marine Chapter, the Stormwolves, is closely allied with a Rogue Trader fleet, having multiple Detachments in a single Armylist will be a wonderful new tool for representing Joint Operations of Marines and Voidship Troopers. No more having to settle for what I could make do with what I could cobble together from Imperial Agent rules.
Even for pure-Marine Army Lists, since I've been pulling counts-as rules from different Chapters, this is still potentially a boon for that. While I do have my own fully Homebrew rules that essentially say "change out any Chapter keywords for Stormwolves", having an option to just mash two native Detachments together means I wouldn't have to rely on my own meager attempts at rulecraft.
And then there's the tease of "over 70 new and updated Detachments". While that's a bit of weasel wording by lumping new and updated together, any new Detachments would potentially give me rules to mine for inspiration for my Stormwolves.
Finally, as someone whose Homebrew lore leans heavily on the split between Firstborn and Primaris Marines, the fact that the new edition doesn't invalidate the 10E codexes means I still have Firstborn Datasheets to work with.
Not that I'm not still wary that old units will be fully phased out at some point in the future; the refresh of the Intercessor kit where Primaris Marines are now sporting armor that pulls parts from Marks previous to Mk X is a clear sign that eventually they want everything to be Primaris at some point in the future. But for now, Tactical Squads and the venerable Rhino APC will still be around at least through 12E.
From a lore standpoint, it wouldn't be hard to drop the Firstborn sections of the Stormwolves, but I'm glad I don't have to drop that hammer just yet.
As last time, I'm going to break out links to my Homebrew "Codex" and Gallery in a reply to this post.
WH40K Homebrew Space Marine Chapter: Stormwolves β Wahapedia 11E Update
Third-Party Warhammer Reference site Wahapedia has finally updated with a section for WH40K 11E.
This means I was able to go through and update all the hyperlinks in my Homebrew Codex for my Stormwolves Space Marine Chapter (including their allied forces). Not that the information those hyperlinks point to has changed any, that won't happen until the 11E Codexes start rolling out, but at least I was able to also add links to the new 11E Detachments and their Enhancements and Upgrades where I was using them.
Also, this post is mainly an excuse for me to share some of the latest digital renders I've added to the illustrations of my Homebrew. No actual marines in this batch but Fleet personnel, AdMech support, and natives from the chapter's homeworld can flesh out the vibe of the chapter just as well.
WH40K Homebrew Space Marine Chapter: Stormwolves β Final 10E Munitorum Field Manual 4.2 Update
Games Workshop updated the Points Document to add the new units and detachments for the Armageddon release, in what I believe will be the last changes of 10E.
The Guard got some nice new Units and Detachments, and of course, we can't go a new release without Space Marines getting a Detachment or two. However none of the new stuff feels like it fits my theme of a Genetically Experimental Covert Ops Chapter supported by Rogue Trader Void Troopers, so I'm putting the new stuff aside for now.
Instead, I went through my lists to start some prep work for the conversion to 11E. 1K Point Armylists will cap out at two Enhancements instead of three in the new edition, so I scrubbed my lists to fix any that were over that limit.
For my Hive-Gangers-w/Chaos-Demon-Rules, I trimmed down from three Enhancements to one, dropping the freed up points into 10 extra bodies for one of the mobs.
Also digibashed a mini together with a double ended blade design that I had used when I first started work on this homebrew in the mid-1990s. Is it practical? Don't care, it looks cool, and is closer to my vision than I ever could get taking X-Acto Knife to plastic back in the day.
I also did some tweaks to my AdMech Armylist, swapping in another Crucible of Champions character for the Tech Priest Dominus. Loadout is mostly the same, but now the character can Lead my Kastelan Robots alongside my Datasmith for a nice Melee Brick. This also let me squeeze out the missing 10 points I hadn't filled on that Armylist.
I gave her Control Edict, which I had previously put on a different Crucible character in the list so for the other character, I swapped out for Galvanic Field, which I think is much more on theme.
I will admit to being tempted to find a place to put the new Inquisitor Kroyle, but at 100 Points, it's hard to find what I'd want to take out to make room. The new Unit works best in Battleline-heavy Armylists, and I think I know which one I would choose. I already have a proxy designed, because this is Homebrew, if I can use a Datasheet as Counts-As for an OC, I will. I just have to come up with flavor. (Might expand the list of potential Rogue Trader heirs, don't know.)
Another thing that I'm going to have to consider for the 11E switchover is the new Force Disposition system. While it makes sens that GW would publish Force Dispositions for any existing official Detachments, my Chapter has their own Homebrew Detachment I occasionally use.
With only the limited information I have right now, I'm guessing Priority Assets and maybe Recon would be good fits for my Homebrew Detachment, but I'll have to wait and see what GW does for the official Detachments I modeled it on.
Since these posts seem to get more traction when I leave out any links, as before, I'm going to break out links to my Homebrew "Codex" and Gallery in a reply to this post.
