V lets out a sharp laugh, leaning back in her chair as she rereads the message. "bold of you to assume I’d trust you with classified info like that." she mutters under her breath, rolling her eyes. her fingers hover over the keys for a second before she starts typing. "he’s—… annoying. smart, sometimes funny, sometimes an asshole. fucking reckless too." she hesitates—just for a second too long—then adds, a little more begrudgingly, "…and he’s got this thing where he looks at you like... he knows you. like knows knows. hate that." V stares at the screen, jaw tightening, then huffs and hits send before she can overthink it. "that’s all you’re getting. don’t make it weird."

fate’s   sadistic   irony   sprinkled   in   yet   another    scene   ,   depicting   amusement   on   the   edges   of   his   lips   where   once   they’ve   bleed   under   somebody’s   knuckles   .   crime   renamed   park   row   in   a   crimson   baptism   ,   sojourn   of   nothing   but   survivals   of   sinful   lives,   including   his   ——   the   alley’s   blasphemy   segregated   no   class   when   gorging   on   orphan’s   innocence   ,   defiling   even   the   memory   of   stolen   tires   with   familiar   bitterness   .   to   hell   with   that   ,   404’s (@404027)   snickering   infected   even   those   rotten   bricks   .

bottom   line   of   hazel   eyes   bent   before   her   dalliance   ,   verdant   specks   sparkling   with   mirth   on   each   step   taken   towards   street   light   .   ❝   not   really   .   ❞   sweet   lie   complied   with   theatrics   ,   palm   rising   to   rest   against   wall   as   chest   inclined   forward   ,   only   inches   away   from   hers   .   jason   knew   exactly   what   he   was   doing   .   ❝   could   you   show   me   around ?   some   place   we   can   have   a   little   fun   .   ❞

chuckle   resonated   through   speaker   attached   to   plushie   ,   low   quality   adding   electronic   tone   to   human   voice   ,    unbefitting   of   round   form   .   vigilantes   a   brand   in   the   city   ,   figures   often   represented   an   exploitable   source   without   legal   inconveniences   for   merchants   ,   allowing   commerce   to   grow   on   their   expense   .   a   joke   that   jason   knew   better   to   be   used   on   his   benefit   than   wait   to   be   turned   against   him   .   404’s   reaction,   captured   by   the   camera   taped   to   the   very   spheric   figure   of   fluffier   red   hood,   when   she   found   it,   was   very   worth   the   trouble   .

yet,   her   retaliation   list   seemed   redundant   .   ❝   uh   .   .   .   don’t   you   already   do   that   ?   ❞   mockery   filled   lilt   with   notes   higher   than   usual   .    ❝   you   know   having   free   access   to   my   comms   to   say   whatever   you   want,   whenever   you   want,   does   qualify   as   annoying,   right?   ❞   tim   had   almost   built   this   habit   in   which   jason   was   more   than   keen   to   pluck   by   the   roots   ,   but   the   hacker   seemed   to   be   more   insistent   than   his   brother   .

the  city  seems  quieter.   the  distant  hum  of  traffic.   the  buzz  of  neon  signs.     V  just  stares.   then  she  laughs.   not  the  loud,  reckless  laugh  people  know  her  for.   not  the  one  that  usually  comes  after  a  bad  joke  or  a  near-death  experience.   this  one  is...   colder.   almost  pitying.   "nothing."   her  voice  barely  rises  above  the  rain.   "for  the  first  time  in  my  life..."   the  metallic  whirr  cuts  through  the  alley.   twin  mantis  blades  slide  from  her  forearms  with  practiced  ease,  gleaming  beneath  the  fractured  neon  lights.  their  edges  catch  every  color  NIGHT  CITY  has  to  offer—acid  pinks,  electric  blues,  sickly  yellows. she  doesn't  attack.   doesn't  need  to.   the  threat  is  already  there.  written  in  chrome.   written  in  the  way  she  stands.   written  in  the  certainty  behind  her  eyes.   "...I  know  exactly  what  I'm  doing."  the  blades  lower  slightly,  angled  toward  the  pavement.     404  knows  her.    knows  how  many  times  V  charged  into  danger  with  a  half-baked  plan  and  a  curse.   knows  how  often  she  second-guessed  herself.   how  often  she  pretended  confidence  while  making  it  up  as  she  went.   that  person  is  gone.   the  woman  standing  here  now  looks  frighteningly  certain.

brows   formed   an   arc   beneath   purple   mask   in   a   de-verbalized   taunt   to   the   other's   words   ,   silence   only   providing   more   time   for   her   to   tangle   on   her   own   concept   until   awkwardness   screeched   ;   perharps   one   day   helena   will   admit   being   entertained   by   the   sight   of   someone   getting   lost   in   their   own   speech   ,   but   for   now   ,   only   a   faint   curve   in   her   lips   denounced   her   delight   .    ❝   a   bribe   ?   i'm   not   THAT   cheap   .   ❞    and   yet   fingers   remove   gauntlet   from   opposite   hand   before   it   dives   on   the   bag   for   a   handful   .    ❝   it   matches   your   taste   .   ❞    a   snicker   escaped   through   lips   before   chips   occupied   them   ,   only   a   crispy   chew   filling   the   silence   between   them   for   a   moment .

❝   no   offense   ,   but   next   snack   is   on   me   .   i'll   show   you   what   real   food   tastes   like   .   ❞    shoulder   pressed   against   the   hacker   in   a   light   nudge   ,   trivial   banter   flashing   a   self   thought   lost   with   her   world   ;   the   green   ,   jocose   girl   had   dulled   her   colors   to   camouflage   in   this   earth   of   reversed   roles   &   exhumed   deaths .

cue a groan, half-exasperated and mostly noncommittal. ‎ ‎ ‎“are you always this much of a dork around other girls, or am i just special?” ‎ ‎ ‎tilting her head, she looks at the other, eyebrows slightly lifted. ‎ ‎ ‎“food is not the way to my heart, if that’s what you’re actually asking.”
