When I first started physical therapy, I took a test to determine how much of my day/time was spent being actively symptomatic or fighting/coping with my symptoms. Initially, I tested at 86% - which as I’m sure you can imagine is pretty freakin’ high, even for a chronic illness. When that illness literally affects all your movements and your ability to focus your eyes, retain memory, or get up and walk around, that’s pretty much a constant thing.Â
Last week, after about 3 months of PT, I tested again and came up at 52%.Â
That is HUGE progress in a short period of time for vestibular disorders. The groups I was in warned me that the first 3 months would be terrible but I’d likely start feeling better after that, and true enough, some of these exercises trigger my dizziness or motion sickness and most of them give me a headache. BUT, they have helped SO much, so much faster than I thought. The meds keep me from panicking when I have symptoms, and I’m able to recover faster from a bad spell.Â
Overall, this is great progress. I’ve been moved down from 3-2 days a week to only 1 day a week.Â
I haven’t been swimming since we left Florida, which is horrible because I’ve always been someone who spends the whole summer in the water. I’m sure part of that contributed to my depression alongside being so suddenly sick with no answers. Dizziness is super easily triggered by water, so I avoided it for that reason (and also because we have no beaches here, obvs, and very few pools).Â
Tomorrow, I am going to the municipal pool in the local rich neighborhood to get back in my element and back on my game.Â
Also, I’ve been writing something...but you’ll just have to wait a mite bit longer for it. <3Â
Thank you all for your continued patience with me.Â
