Lots of progress today. Feeling good about the build again.
Finally finished the ECU wiring. This was a mess, as predicted, and Iām extremely pessimistic about the chances that everything actually works as intended. Too many duplicate colours - green + single dot maps to (from memory) throttle position sensor 2, accelerator position sensor 2 power, and throttle control motor relay. I *think* Iāve hooked it up correctly, butā¦
Also I checked my notes so that anecdote isnāt really āfrom memoryā anymore. Anyway.
Startup and diag will be challenging. Par for the course, I suppose. At any rate, now that the wiring is done Iāve poked the harness back inside the cabin and re-secured the rubber seal - so the car can survive the rain, if needed.
More promisingly, Iāve succeeded in installing the bulk of the exhaust and turbo piping. This is the bit I thought might have been fabbed up wrong. It was still challenging to install - starter motor had to come out and itās an incredibly tight fit - but itās in, and thatās more than I bargained on.
Mock-up below. The main runner back to the muffler isnāt bolted up, but thatās a non-issue and easy to install.
I also mock-fitted the intercooler, and intercooler piping. Some of it is fouling on he thermo fan - I should be able to fix this, but it might take an angle grinder to chop off some of the ancillary bits of my rad.
The filter and inlet piping want to pass directly though the fibreglass radiator mount. Bit annoying - but I should have seen this coming, given the radiator didnāt exactly bolt straight up, either. Iāll need to cut a hole in the radiator mount.
Hopefully this doesnāt present issues with engineering⦠never fills me with confidence when I have to bust out the angle grinder and saw tooth drill bits.
