Tbh you have a really bad habit of reblogging posts that are very obviously meant to be intracommunity posts for the black community and the black community only. Like posts that say nigga and things that address specifically black women: I know you have good intentions but those posts are not for you and you really need to work on not overstepping your boundaries in similar situations.
Regarding intra-community jokes and memes, I apologize, but it actually is hard for me to tell sometimes. IDK if it’s from my brain being all weird or if it’s left over White Liberal programming or just the fact that most of my socializing is done on Tumblr, but in any case, yeah; still, I doubt any suggestions you have would hurt, so feel free to PM me again if you feel like it and it’s not a huge waste of your time. Presumably you’re talking about more than this, though.
Regarding reblogging other people’s positions on intra-community issues…yeah, that’s not stopping. I get that there are issues where my opinion as a cishet white male is about as relevant as my opinion as an American is of South African politics, my opinion as an atheist is of any given religion’s internal theology, or my opinion as a layman is of theoretical physics–and for much the same reason–but isn’t using our spotlight to promote the message of and support the people on the front lines what allies are supposed to do?
Nothing in my personal experience has been as dehumanizing as when the people and organizations that are supposed to have your back don’t. Sometimes the things I see and hear tell of in intra-community politics regarding the treatment of people at intersections and/or the less cishet-comprehension-friendly parts of the gender and/or sexual orientation spectrums (spectra?) reminds me of when teachers would give the kids bullying me slaps on the wrist or when the so-called experts went “lol, nope; we have no idea what’s wrong with this kid’s brain, why don’cha just stick him in special ed with all the other freaks?” (yeah, there’s a reason I’ve never actually discussed my neurodivergence) so I have strong feelings about these issues. Sorry, not sorry.
Regarding the fact that I sometimes get into fights with hoteps, radfems, truscum, and other such…non-intersectional types, I fully realize that that is problematic. Also problematic, IMHO, is seeing violence happen on my dash and doing nothing about it, which means that basically whenever I do see it I have to decide whether intervening is worth the fact that by doing so I’ve given an iota more legitimacy to the people who barge into threads to say “but not all men/white people/cishets/heterochromatic redheaded left-handed Rhode Islanders…” Sometimes I decide that it is, sometimes I decide that it isn’t; I’m sure I’ve been wrong in both cases.
If there’s an angle to this–any of this–I’m not considering, I’d love to hear it, because I’m doing the best I know how to do.
