Headcanon: Parents (30DoCD Challenge)
Describe your character’s relationship with their mother or their father, or both. Was it good? Bad? Were they spoiled rotten, ignored? Do they still get along now, or no? Athena: Ariel was about 3 years old when Athena passed away, so any memories she has of her mother are pretty vague. Whatever impression she has of her mother us influenced by what her family tells her. She loves the memory of her, but wishes she could have known her. While she's grateful for having a sister like Attina, who she looks up to as a mother figure, it will never feel quite the same as actually having had a mother. And she can't help at times envy her older sisters who had time to build memories of their mother. Her envy and longing for a relationship she didn't get to enjoy also punches her to often turn to the same older sisters. And oftentimes she will bombard them with questions about her mother, sometimes repeating the same list of queries she's asked in the past, hoping it might trigger some vague memory she can retain and latch onto. Triton: Ariel adores her father, and is every bit a daddy's girl, far more than her sisters. As she didn't have a relationship or memories with Athena, she tries to make up for it by having the closest relationship with Triton, and takes advantage if being the youngest to get what she wants. She was indulged as a child, however has also raised to be compassionate and is inherently good natured, one of the traits she got from her mother. After she is cast out of Atlantica, she did spend some time resenting her father, feeling as her father the king, he should not have cast her out. She eventually did find it in herself to try forgive him, understanding if he hadn't banished her she would have been executed. However there are times Ariel does find herself resenting his decision still, feeling that as his favorite he should have put his duties as her father before his duties as king. Attina: Attina is Ariel's oldest sister and someone she loves dearly. After Athena's death, Attina strove to be a rock for her sisters and unknowingly slipped into more of a motherly role to the younger girls. She regards 'Tina as a second mother figure and confidant, often turning to her for guidance and looking up to her as a role model. Because she is the eldest, Ariel holds a bit of envy towards her for having the most time with Athena, though will never admit to it. Because of her role as a second mother figure, Attina is also the one whose opinion she values most, driving Ariel to do her best to win her approval.
