30 Days Wild - Plant Progress Update :3
This year, my dad helped me dig a border in his garden so that we could plant a whole bunch of pollinator-friendly plants :3 We managed to run out of space, so we have some stuff in pots too, haha.
Some of it has flowered and finished already, and others have yet to flower, but overall, I'm just stunned at how huge some of them have grown since they were only tiny plug plants when we put them in x3
I know practically nothing about gardening, so it's nice to see that stuff isn't just surviving, but thriving (apart from my Centaurea, which got absolutely destroyed by slugs T_T my Delphinium that snapped in the wind, and my Centranthus which mysteriously died while I was away from home for a couple of days >.< ... but we won't talk about that x3)
I'm most impressed by the Verbena & the Borage which have just become absolute monsters xD
And also, the barrel I filled with various Nicotiana that looked awfully marooned has now become a big bunch of beautiful blooms :D
We've already seen bees, hoverflies, damselflies, dragonflies, butterflies, and moths around various things that we planted, so, hopefully, it's helping, even if it's just a little ^-^

#30DaysWild day 10: I've been collecting & pressing local (plentiful) wildflowers with an aim to gathering a collection of local flora. Today I framed the ones that are ready. The specimens are each mounted on separate sheets behind each mini aperture, so I could move them around if I decide to focus all of one frame on one area or plant family later on. Suggestions and advice for anyone inspired to do the same: - try to familiarise yourself with rare species to avoid, and use the 1/20 rule when picking plants - if you can see 20 flowers, you can pick one, etc. Never uproot plants and don't pick from nature reserves. Collect responsibly and mindfully. - carry something like a tub or plastic cup with you on your walk/hike, with some soaked kitchen roll in it, this will keep your flowers fresh until you get home. - collect leaves as well as flowers, and photograph in situ, to help in identification. - ID and label plants before you press them, as they can look very different after they've can flattened. - pad out more succulent plants (e.g. pink purslane) with extra blotting paper when pressing. A few days ago I cleared fir cones from my mother-in-laws garden and thought I might find some use for them...Â
I tied the cones one by one around some beige string, clambered up a chair with a roll of sticky tape in hand, and stretched my fir cone bunting across my wall. I think it gives a nice forest-y feel to my cosy little flat.
